Winthrop Likes Trees Holds Arbor Garden Party

Winthrop Likes Trees, a newly formed non-profit organization, held an Arbor Garden Party fundraiser on August 7 at the EB Newton School and Cultural Center. Craft vendors, selling handmade jewelry and soaps, gathered on the lawn, where Squeezebox Stompers Duo, Ralph Tufo and Larry Plitt, performed. An art exhibit dedicated to the preservation of trees and the environment was displayed in The Clock Tower Gallery, and visitors created fairy houses with bark, berries, and pine cones during a workshop with Sandy Schiff.

“We have a lot of goals,” said Joanne Hillman, Winthrop Likes Trees President. “Replace all the felled trees, create a pollinator ribbon in Winthrop, and help fund the proposed Landing landscaping. We are also having a town tree and interactive map where people can suggest places for trees to be planted.”

View the tree exhibit at The Clock Tower Gallery, 45 Pauline Street, Winthrop, Sunday, August 15, 2-4pm, Saturday, August 21, 11am-2pm, and Saturday, August 28, 11am-2pm, or by appointment by contacting Joanne Hillman at (617) 721-4162, or WinthropCultureCouncil.@gmail.com. Visit Winthrop Likes Trees on Facebook to learn more about preservation efforts.  Special thanks for the helping with the event goes to Arbor Garden Party story: Blackstrap, Twist & Shake, Cimino’s Meat Market, Nick’s Place, Children’s Corner, and Beacon Photography & Framing.
