“Swing Into Spring” Exhibit at Adrianna’s

Dear Editor:

The Winthrop Art Association is pleased to announce the “Swing into Spring” exhibit of local member artists at Adriana’s Café, 19 Main Street in Winthrop, MA.  The Café, a local family owned business, operated by the Schettino family is named in memory of Adriana, a loving and faithful mother, daughter, and sister, whose presences remains in their hearts and thoughts.  The second you walk in the door this places feels like home. The added décor of almost 25 art pieces from Winthrop Art Association members adds to the friendly atmosphere adorned with a fireplace and harbor view in the clean and well-decorated space. 

​The Art Exhibit will be on display through the end of May and includes local artists Beverly Brody Barisano, WAA founder (1969), graduate of Massachusetts College Art and recipient of a Midwest Fellowship from the University of Wisconsin.  She works in oils, water-based paints, collages, and graphics.  James Calabrese, self-taught, awarded the Boston Globe Scholastic Gold Key and Blue Ribbon in 1982, graduate of Butera School of Art.  He illustrates at leisure and occasionally is commissioned on a variety of projects.  Frank Constantino is an accomplished, award-winning watercolor painter, developed from his commissions as an architectural illustrator for over fifty years.  He received awards in national and regional events and shows and serves as exhibiting artist at the Mayor’s Rose Garden annual fundraiser for the City of Boston.  He is regularly invited by many art groups for his lively, informative demos that may be found on Youtube. Articles have appeared in Fine Art Connoisseur, Plein Air, Cape Cod Life, Art New England, and other publications. Brenda Curry, a founding member of WAA, received a BFA from Mass Collage of Art and studied at the California Collage of Arts and Crafts and Boston University in Art Therapy. Her work interprets the human figure, animals, and landscapes in unique pieces including furniture and walking canes. Marty Levine, always with a  camera, finds It’s amazing what you can “see” when you take notice. Marty captures many of the local scenes.

Harriet Agda Lundberg, has been painting for the past fifteen years, is retired from the Boston Conservatory and Boston Arts Academy and spends time on her music and artwork. Dawn Mahoney, self-taught artist who refined her skills while studying at the Museum of Fine Arts and apprenticed with the artist Verdi in Montreal. WAA Board President, Dawn works in several mediums, specializing in pen and ink. ​ Denny Mahoney, started photography about five years ago and found she had a knack for it.  She has won awards with her photos of a variety of subjects. Phyllis Poor’s fiber work began in the 80’s in Bath, England.  She has focused on the art of Hooking, using linen backing and yarn.  Her creative works start with something useful and lead her into a joyful, colorful conclusion. Judith Savignano attended Massachusetts College of Art. Her mediums include Illustration, sculpture, charcoal, and acrylics. Judy very much enjoys being part of the arts community. Caroline Stella, a retired Boston schoolteacher, who turned her photography hobby into a passion. She has also received awards and has been Essex National Heritage Commission. Karri Sullivan always had a camera in her hands.  She went to sea at 14 on the restored Brig Unicorn, the famed pirate ship.  She has worked on tall ships, tugboats, research vessels and schooners.  On all of her travels and explorations, she brought her camera to capture the scenes.  Kaari is an award -winning photographer and her work has been published.
