On November 27th, the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce will be putting on their 29th annual Holiday Tree Lighting. While the event will still be held the day after Thanksgiving, it will be a little different due to the pandemic and the ongoing construction in the Town Center. Like most things in today’s world, the annual lighting will be executed with a virtual twist, featuring small group performances and traditional holiday fun.
The Chamber, a non-profit organization, will be teaming up with WCAT to host a special program showcasing performances by Cervizzi’s Martial Arts, Jessica Gordon School of Dance, and the Winthrop School of Performing Arts, along with a few surprise appearances.
“We wanted to make sure this event still happened and it will be a great opportunity for the kids to perform and for parents and grandparents to be able to watch in the comfort and safety of their own homes,†said Betsy Shane, Executive Director of the Chamber of Commerce.
Residents and business owners are encouraged to join in on the fun and partake in a sing-along or simply share a holiday greeting. Videos can be submitted to ann@winthropchamber.com by November 20th, to be included in the program.
Please ensure that your video follows these guidelines:
• Film in landscape mode
• No longer than five minutes
• Turn in no later than November 20th
The event kicks off shopping for the holiday season and it’s now more important than ever to support local businesses on Small Business Saturday. The Winthrop Chamber of Commerce is working remotely, however; Winthrop gift certificates (Winthrop Dollars) can be purchased by emailing Betsy Shane at betsy@winthropchamber.com with your request and phone number or leaving a message at the office 617-846-9898. The gift certificates will be delivered to you.
