Police Blotter 08-13-2020

The following incident reports are among the calls to which the Winthrop Police Department responded for the period of July 27 – August 3:

Monday, July 27

0827: A Court Rd. resident reported that his motor vehicle (MV) had been broken into and that a few items had been taken. He will check with a neighbor for possible video surveillance of the area.

1022: A resident reported that a fraudulent unemployment claim had been filed using her identifying information.

1127: The owner of a Golden Retriever on Lowell Rd. reported that the dog was missing. The Animal Control Officer was notified, but the owner reported finding the dog.

1621: A caller reported that a group of three persons were arguing with a golf club manager and that it appeared that the men had been drinking alcohol. The officer who responded learned that the men were arguing over a payment issue for the golf tournament. The officer advised all of the parties that this is a civil matter.

1707: An officer responded to a report of a parking violation on Girdlestone Rd. and issued a parking ticket to the vehicle in question for parking in a no-parking zone.

1710: A trespass tow was reported for a MV parked illegally at Governor’s Drive.

2355: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) and gave a verbal warning to the operator.

Tuesday, July 28

0837: A resident came into the station to report a breaking & entering (B&E) into her MV overnight. The officer will file a report.

0852: A Russell St. resident reported a B&E into her MV overnight while it was parked in her driveway. There was minor damage to a door, but nothing was reported missing.

1112: An officer issued a citation to a MV parked on Revere St. for the CMVI of having an expired inspection sticker. The MV also was placed on the 72-hour list.

1112: Parking tickets were issued to motor vehicles parked on Trident Ave. at Shirley St. for parking in a no-parking zone during street-sweeping day.

1239: Officers executing a warrant arrested Tyrrell Lee Williams, 26, of 20 Dix St., on charges of possession of ammunition without an FID card (subsequent offense), two counts of possession of a firearm without an FID card (subseq. offense), two counts of improper storage of a firearm, trafficking in more than 10 grams of fentanyl, illegal possession of a Class E controlled narcotic substance, and illegal possession with intent to distribute Class B, Class C, and Class D controlled narcotic substances.

1307: An officer issued a citation to a MV parked on Sea View Ave. for the CMVI of having an expired inspection sticker. The MV also was placed on the 72-hour list.

1310: An officer assisted the parties with the exchange of papers at a minor motor vehicle accident (MVA) at the Showcase Laundromat on Main St.

1413: A Quincy Ave. resident reported that her parked MV had been struck and damaged by a hit-and-run operator.

1722: A female who was discovered passed out in her parked MV in a parking lot behind a business in the Centre was transported to the MGH.

1850: An officer stopped a MV on Washington Ave. for a civil infraction. The officer discovered that the operator also had an issue with her license. The officer directed the operator to drive home forthwith and resolve the issue with the Registry before driving again.

2336: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Pleasant St. and Tileston Rd. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of speeding and gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2347: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a plate light violation and gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2357: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Shirley and Irwin Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a stop sign violation and gave a verbal warning to the operator.

Wednesday, July 29

0052: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Belcher and Hermon Sts. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a marked lanes violation and gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0242: An officer issued four parking tickets to vehicles on Palmyra St. for not having residential parking stickers.

0311: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a red light violation and gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0332: An officer issued four parking tickets to vehicles on Hutchinson St.

0606: An officer issued parking tickets to two vehicles that were parked on the sidewalk along Charles St. 

0704: A Main St. resident reported that her MV had been struck and damaged while parked overnight by a hit-and-run operator. The officer will file a report.

0946: An officer retrieved two hypodermic syringes that were discovered at Coughlin Playground.

1407: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV parked without a residential parking sticker on Bayview Ave.

1611: Officers escorted a male party from the premises of the Viking Gardens Housing and observed the property manager issue a No Trespass notice to the male party. Visitors are not allowed on the premises during the Covid-19 crisis.

1617: Officers responded to a dispute involving a former tenant in a Lincoln St. building. The officers kept the peace and informed the parties that this is a civil matter.

1701: Officers responded to a report of a disturbance involving neighbors on Golden Drive. The dispute revolved around one neighbor feeding birds outside of his window. The neighbor agreed to stop feeding the birds.

1712: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Revere St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of non-working rear lights and gave a verbal warning to the operator. The operator said he was unaware of the situation and was directed to drive home forthwith.

1723: A tow was ordered for a disabled MV on Crystal Cove Ave.

1728: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV parked in a No Parking zone on Bowdoin St.

1939: Medford police reported recovering a MV that had been reported stolen out of Winthrop.

1954: A Morton St. resident reported a B&E into his MV. The officer will file a report.

2011: An officer installed a car seat for a resident of Harborview Ave.

2122: A caller reported that his MV had been struck by a hit-and-run operator at Pleasant St. and Brookfield Rd.

2226: An officer dispersed a group of cars from Hannaford Park.

2332: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Crest Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infractions (CMVI) of speeding and a red light violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2333: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) at Highland and Crest Aves. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of not having the headlights turned on. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

Thursday, July 30

0030: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Crest Ave. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of not having the headlights turned on. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

0319: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV on Bellevue Ave.

0338: An officer directed three youths playing basketball at the courts on Walden St. to take it home for the night.

0350: A Shirley St. resident reported that his son’s bicycle had been stolen from the front entryway of his apartment building. 

0629: The golf club reported vandalism overnight. The officer will file a report.

1013: An officer retrieved a hypodermic syringe from Coughlin Playground and brought it to the station for proper disposal.

1036: An officer retrieved another hypodermic syringe from Coughlin Playground and brought it to the station for proper disposal.

1356: An officer issued a parking ticket to a MV parked on the sidewalk in the 800 block of Shirley St.

1439: A Washington Ave. resident reported that the BMW logo from his MV had been stolen.

1515: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Main St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of unsafe operation. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

1526: A resident came into the station to report that a fraudulent unemployment claim had been filed using his identifying information.

1538: Officers responded to an ongoing issue between neighbors at 900 Governor’s Park involving a noise dispute. They were advised that this is an issue for the property management to resolve.

1857: Officers responded to a MVA on Main St. One MV was towed.

2008: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Oceanview Ave for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of a lane violation. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

2018: An officer directed the residents of a Hutchinson St. home to turn down their music for the night.

2335: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Revere St. for a civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI). The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.

Friday, July 31

0237: An officer issued two parking tickets to vehicles on Palmyra St.

0247: An officer issued a parking ticket to a vehicle on Hutchinson St.

0745: A caller reported that a small dog was walking alone on Pleasant St. The dog was reunited with its owner before the Animal Control Officer arrived.

1022: A resident came into the station to report being a victim of identity theft.

1213: An officer responded to a MVA on Putnam St. and will file a report.

1949: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Revere St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of excessive window tint. The officer issued a citation to the operator.

2004: An officer issued parking tickets to four vehicles parked on Grandview Ave. without resident parking stickers.

2014: An officer issued a citation to the owner of a MV on Nevada St. for the criminal charge of having a registration revoked for insurance cancellation. The MV was ordered towed. 

2301: An officer dispersed a group of about 20 persons playing basketball at the Walden St. courts.

2332: An officer directed a loud group of party-goers at a Woodside Ave. residence to keep it down for the night.

Saturday, August 1

0007: An officer directed the operator of a MV parked at Halford Beach to leave for the night.

0100: An officer returned to the Woodside Ave. residence upon a report that the party had resumed. The officer directed the party-goers to end it for the night.

1300: A MV parked in the crosswalk on Shore Drive at Myrtle Ave. was ordered to be towed.

1504: Officers responded to a report of suspicious activity on Dolphin Ave. They arrested a 20 year-old Winthrop man on an outstanding warrant that had been issued by another jurisdiction.

1606: A Chester Ave. resident reported a B&E into two of his vehicles and that some items had been taken. The vehicles had been unlocked and were not damaged.

2019: A repossession company reported taking a motor vehicle on Locust St.

2310: An officer dispersed a MV with two occupants from Hannaford Park.

Sunday, August 2

0003: An officer dispersed a MV with two occupants from the cemetery on Kennedy Rd.

1904: An officer responded to a landlord-tenant dispute on Nevada St. and restored the peace.

1914: A Circuit Rd. resident reported finding a lost dog with no collar. The caller was informed that the Animal Control Officer would be on duty on Monday. The dog was reunited with its owner.

2201: An officer responded to a report of a MV striking a dog on Main St. A witness stated that the dog was not on a leash and ran into the street. The dog showed no signs of injury.

2231: An officer dispersed a group that had been setting off fireworks on the beach behind the water tower.

2259: An officer directed homeowners on Bellevue Ave. to take their loud party inside for the night.

2318: An officer dispersed a group in a MV from Halford Beach.

Monday, August 3

0013: A repossession company reported taking a vehicle from Winthrop St.

0106: An officer stopped a motor vehicle (MV) on Pauline St. for the civil motor vehicle infraction (CMVI) of having improper equipment. The officer gave a verbal warning to the operator.
