Designed Many of the Flower Pots and Window Baskets Decorating Winthrop Storefronts
Suzanne W. (Deroo) Dalton of Winthrop passed away on August 3. She was 76 years old.
The beloved wife of the late Edward J. Dalton, she was born in Winthrop, the cherished daughter of the late Abbott and Marion (Daly) Deroo.
Prior to her retirement, Suzanne was employed by in the data entry department at Massachusetts Eye and Ear. She was a member of the P.A.L.S. Club in Winthrop and also a member of the M.S.P.C.A. Suzanne enjoyed art and designed many of the flower pots and window baskets that are distributed to the businesses around Winthrop to decorate their store fronts.
Suzanne was the devoted mother of Edward S. Dalton and his wife, Phon of Winchester, Bridget Tavano and her husband, Peter of Manchester, NH, Heather Bucci and her husband, Joe of Winthrop and Ian Dalton and his wife, Christine of South Carolina. She was the adored grandmother of Kyle, Jared and Luke Dalton and Bobby McCarrick, Jake, Zachary and Noah Tavano, Sabrina, Faith, and Jonah Dalton and Tyler and Dakota Bucci and great-grandmother of Mason and Cole Tavano. Suzanne was the dear sister of Richard Deroo of Florida, Linda Costantino and Janice Connor, both of Winthrop and Elizabeth “Wysty†Swenson of Hopkinton. She was also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours will be held at the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Friday, August 14, following current Massachusetts health guidelines, from 4 to 6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA. 01970. Jerard Torres
Bartender at Winthrop Lodge of Elks
Jerard A. ‘Jerry†Torres of Winthrop Shore Drive, Winthrop passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on August 8. He was 61 years old.
The beloved son of the late Rita (Belsito) and Anthony Torres, he was born in East Boston and resided there for many years before moving to Winthrop over 30 years ago. He was employed as a bartender at the Winthrop Lodge of Elks where he was also a member.
He was the loving companion of Eloise Palumbo of Winthrop.

James Bruce
Proprietor of Bill Ash’s Lounge on Revere Beach and retired State Police Sergeant
Family and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Mass on Thursday, August 13, at 12 noon in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop for James R. Bruce, 83, who died unexpectedly on Friday, August 7 at Mass General Hospital, Boston. Interment will follow in Winthrop Cemetery (Cross St. Section). In view of the ongoing pandemic, visiting hours are respectfully omitted. Attendees must wear masks and maintain social distancing.
Born on July 13, 1937 in Chelsea, he lived in Revere until marrying and moving to Winthrop in 1962. He attended Revere schools was a member of the Class of 1955 of Revere High School. In October of 1955, he joined the Marines during the Korean Conflict and served until October of 1958. He was a 25-year member of the Massachusetts State Police acquiring the rank of Sergeant. He retired in 1992. He was a member of the Retired Association of Metropolitan Police and also a member of the Winthrop Elks. In 1974, he became the proprietor of Bill Ash’s Lounge on Revere Beach which he owned until the time of his death.
The beloved husband of the late Carol M. (Pumphret) Bruce, he was the cherished father of Sgt. James R. Bruce, Jr. of the MA State Police and his wife, Kathleen Marley-Bruce of Lynnfield, Christine M. Bruce, Robert A. Bruce and Jennifer E. Bruce-Capone and her husband, Gary, all of Winthrop; adoring grandfather to Carol Bruce of Winthrop, James R. Bruce, III and John E. “Jack†Bruce, both of Lynnfield and Francesca N. Capone and Hannah C. Capone, both of Winthrop; devoted brother of Eleanor “Sissy†Kelley and her late husband, Robert N. Kelley, Barbara A. Bruce-Meade and her late husband, Franklin D. “Frank†Meade of the US Navy and the US Marine Corps, all of Revere, Marilyn A. “Mal†Symmes of Winthrop and Revere and the late Walter M. Bruce. He is also lovingly survived by the Pumphret family and by many nieces, nephews, grandnieces and grandnephews.

Michael Patrick Moynahan
Longtime Landscaper
Michael Moynahan of Lawrence, formerly of Winthrop, passed away on July 31 after a long illness. He was 48 years old.
Michael was a graduate of Winthrop High School, Class of 1990 and a long-time landscaper. He was well liked by those who used his services. When he’d come on a job with his fellow landscapers the clients always requested him for their special projects, often commenting that he was the only one who understood what they needed to have done. He always took pride in the work he was doing.
Mike loved sports. As a youth he played Little League baseball. He also played hockey in the Winthrop Youth Hockey program. He loved camping in the woods and mountains of New Hampshire and loved to go boating in Boston Harbor and visiting its many islands.
Michael is survived by his life time companion, Colleen Keefe and his mother and father, Betsy and John Moynahan of Winthrop. He was the dear brother of Patricia Moynahan of Winthrop, Ann Moynahan of Laconia, NH, John Moynahan and his wife, Sandra of Sherman, Illinois, Kevin Moynahan and his companion, Deb Denning of Bristol, NH and James Moynahan and his late wife, Tara Eschbach of Revere and the cherished uncle of Corey Moynahan, Megan Moynahan, Oliver Demers, Emily Moynahan and the late Kyle Moynahan.
