The recent dedication of a plaque at the Winthrop Senior Center in honor of the late Nancy Williams was a fitting tribute to a wonderful woman who devoted her entire adult life to the senior citizens of our community.
Nancy served as the Executive Director of the Council on Aging when that post was established by Town Meeting as a full-time position and she served in that capacity for more than 25 years.
She worked tirelessly on behalf of our community’s seniors and, together with State Rep. Robert A. DeLeo, was a driving force behind obtaining a state grant in the 1990s for the construction of the present Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center, which replaced the former, antiquated quarters in the Old Church Building.
For those of us who knew Nancy, the dedication of the plaque brought back fond memories of a wonderful woman, whose energy and positivity radiated whenever she was in our midst.
Nancy Williams epitomized the ideal of service to others. We know we join with the entire Winthrop community in honoring her memory.
