Judith Silck

Registered Nurse, Former Member of Sisters of Charity and Retired Director of Academic Affairs at Lawrence Memorial Hospital

Judith A. Silck of Buchanan St., Winthrop passed away at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in Revere on Nov. 17. She was 76 years old.

Born in Dorchester, the beloved daughter of the late Catherine (Waters) and James Fahey, she was eight years a Sister of Daughters of Charity in Emitsburg, Maryland and did charitable and nursing care to the sick in the mountains of Maryland. She also worked as a Catholic nun and registered nurse at the Soldier’s Home in Washington D.C. She worked as a R.N. at the Faulkner Hospital in Jamaica Plain and taught nursing at the Malden Hospital School of Nursing and the Mass. State College in Beverly. She was also the director of Academic Affairs at the Lawrence Memorial Hospital in Medford before retiring.

She was the devoted wife of John “Jack” Silck and the loving step mother of Christine Wallace and her husband, Joe Livingston of Concord, N.H; cherished grandmother of Sydney and Gracie Wallace. She was loved by her closest friend/cousin Beverly Lembo and her husband, Peter. Judy also leaves many nieces, nephews and their families in Attleboro, Chelmsford, Nashua, N.H. and Winthrop.

The Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop on Tuesday, Nov. 26. Fr. Peter Graziano celebrated the mass and offered prayers at the committal in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.

Daniel Ashton

Graphic Designer, Art Editor and Winthrop Realtor

Daniel Ashton of Winthrop passed away peacefully on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the age of 68.

Born in New Bedford, he is survived by his wife, Ruth, his two sisters, Peg and Sally, his sister-in-law, Jane, cousins, nieces, nephews and an aunt.

Dan graduated from The Swain School of Design, New Bedford in 1972 with a major in Graphic Design and a minor in Photography. He was president of his class. He did graduate work at Arizona State University, Tempe, Ariz.

Dan worked many years as a graphic designer and art editor in higher education and the publishing industry. As a Realtor, he was the organizer of the Winthrop’s Nicest Gardens Contest through Seacoast Real Estate and was active in the Chamber of Commerce. Using his design, cooking and home improvement experience, he designed kitchens for many Home Depot customers.

Dan enjoyed living by the ocean and had a wide range of interests, including reading, watercolor painting, antiquing, dogs, history, musical theater, and gardening. He will be missed for his positive outlook, sense of humor, can-do attitude and generosity.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, 147 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Friday, Nov. 29 from 4 to 8 p.m. The Funeral will be conducted from the St. John’s EPISCOPAL Church, corner of Bowdoin and Buchanan Streets, Winthrop on Saturday, Nov. 30 10 a.m. (NOT the big brick Catholic church St. John the Evangelist). His family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in his memory to The Swain School of Design Alumni Scholarship Fund at UMass Dartmouth.
