Election Ballot Includes Board Positions and Recreational Marijuana Question

Town Clerk Carla Vitale has announced that the Winthrop town election will take place on Tuesday, Nov. 5.

The ballot includes multiple races for positions on town boards and committees, including Town Council president, two councilor-at-large positions and town councilor in individual precincts. Residents will also have an opportunity to vote on openings on the Winthrop Housing Authority, School Committee and Library Trustees.

In addition, the ballot includes one question regarding a proposed prohibition on adult use marijuana establishments in town. A majority “yes” vote on the question would result in the adoption of a zoning bylaw banning all types of adult use marijuana establishments — including dispensaries, cultivation sites, manufacturers and more.

A majority “no” vote would result in no such prohibition.

Specimen ballots have been posted in the lobby of Town Hall, at the town clerk’s office and online. They will posted in 18 additional locations throughout town next week. The deadline of absentee ballots is noon on Nov. 4. Polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m.
