Student Highlight : Dorr Spends Summer at the State House

Soon-to-be-senior, Kevin Dorr, is keeping his options open and testing a variety of different career paths before he officially decides what he wants to be when he gets older.

One of those options is a summer job at the State House, giving tours to groups who hail from different areas of the country and the world. On average, Dorr gives two or three 45-minute tours each day, as part of the program, and the majority of the groups consist of 10 tourists. Regardless of what four-year-college or university Dorr decides to apply to with the goal of studying business, this summer internship is likely to boost his resume and give him experience that will be useful in the classroom and in the real world.

How Did You Find Out About This Program?

I heard about this program through Mrs. Letterie at the Arthur Cummings School. Her son was involved in this program when he was in high school and I thought it sounded interesting and different.

What Activities are you Involved in at School?

I play hockey, soccer, and tennis. I was named captain of the soccer and tennis team for the 2019-2020 season. I’m also involved in student council and have attended many conferences. Also, I am a member of National Honor Society at Winthrop High.

Who is Your Role Model?

It’s difficult for me to name just one role model. I’ve looked up to my parents, aunts, uncles, teachers, and coaches throughout my life. But I would say my role models are my cousins. I’ve been lucky enough to be surrounded by many older cousins, all of whom have had success in some way. I’m lucky because I get to watch what they do, and I try my best to take after them.
