A collection of unusual star myths that will take us on a multicultural journey across the heavens. Celebrate the magic of the night sky with tales from various countries.
Friday, July 11, 11:30 a.m. : Astronaut Training
Drop in to the Children’s Room between 11:30 and 1:00 to go through our specialized astronaut training and earn your certificate!
Tuesday, July 16, 3:00 p.m. : Apollo 11 Anniversary Rocket Launch
Commemorate the anniversary of the rocket. Join us as we launch rockets of our own.
Tuesday, July 23, 12:00 p.m. : Storytime on the Ferry

Wednesday, Aug. 14, 1:30 p.m. : Science Magic with the Museum of Science
Museum scientists will help us explore how magic tricks really work. You might learn how to how to defy gravity or how to make a balloon fireproof!
Thursday, Aug. 29, time TBD : End of Summer (what?) Ice Cream Social
Join us in celebrating the end of the summer with an ice cream social! Celebrate your hard work with ice cream!

Kids Weekly Events
Mondays, 10:30 a.m. : Toddler Craft Time
Toddlers can join us every Monday for a craft project.
Tuesdays, 3:00 p.m. : Kids Create Club
A hands-on activity time for children on Tuesdays after-school. Open to grades 3-6.
Wednesdays, 10:30 a.m. : Little Wiggles
Clap your hands, stomp your feet & wiggle with the beat! This is a high-energy music and movement program where your children will be wiggling and giggling throughout. Ages 2-5 years.
Wednesdays, 3 p.m.: Lego Club
Lego Club will be switching to summer schedule starting June 26.
Wednesdays, 3 p.m. : Pokémon Club
Pokémon Club meets the second and fourth Wednesday in the Hazlett Room and will meet every week in the summer. Trading is optional.
Fridays, 10:30 a.m. : Storytime – Infants & Toddlers
and Fridays, 11:30 a.m. : Storytime – Preschoolers
Storytime is every Friday in the Children’s Room.
Summer Reading Participation Details
Rocketeers (birth-entering Kindergarten)
Register in-person at the Winthrop Public Library and receive your Rocketeers Summer Reading Bingo sheet!
– For every completed Bingo sheet, children get to pick a prize from the treasure chest and are entered into the drawing for this summer’s Grand Prize!
Grand Prize = 1 year membership to the Museum of Science! (other, smaller, prizes to be announced later)
Kids (entering grades 1-5)
Register in-person at the Winthrop Public Library!
– When you register, select a necklace or a keychain along with a Brag Tag!
– Start reading!
– Record your minutes of reading!
– This can be done on our provided reading tracker OR you can keep track in any way that makes sense to you!
– Turn your minutes into beads for your chain!
We’ll be offering a variety of programs as a way to earn special beads!
BONUS – Visit the library every week and get entered into our weekly prize drawings!
Grand Prize = 1 year membership to the Museum of Science! (other, smaller, prizes to be announced later)
Teens (entering grades 6-12)
For every item teens check out, they are given a scratch ticket (limit one per day)
– The ticket will give them either candy or a medium-sized prize.
– Teens must fill out the ticket and turn it in to collect their prize.
The winner of the Grand Prize will be drawn from all submitted scratch tickets at the end of the summer!
Grand Prize = Amazon Fire HD 8 Tablet!
