Sergeant Mary Ellen Crisafi Earns Community Service Award

Chief Terence Delehanty is pleased to announce that Winthrop Police Sgt. Mary Ellen Crisafi was recognized by the Massachusetts Association of Women in Law Enforcement (MAWLE).

Sgt. Crisafi was recognized with the Spirit of MAWLE Award for Community Service at a ceremony yesterday evening after being nominated by Detective Dawne Armitstead, a friend and colleague of Sgt. Crisafi’s for over 20 years.

MAWLE recognized Sgt. Crisafi for her ongoing work behind the scenes to make the Winthrop Police Department and the town a better place to work and live. A few years ago, she implemented a Good News Board as a way for fellow officers to recognize importance of their positive work, as well as a way to recognize residents who support the department.

“Sgt. Crisafi is a vital member of our department for so many reasons, and I’m glad to see her earn the recognition she deserves for her tireless efforts on behalf of our department and the community,” Chief Delehanty said. “While none of her efforts are done with awards or accolades in mind, she is absolutely deserving of this honor and we’re all proud of her.”

Sgt. Crisafi, who is a breast cancer survivor, volunteers her time by visiting with new members of her survivors group in order to provide support to women in need. In addition, she serves as a mentor for her fellow department members and provides support to families in the community who have lost a loved one.
