Deborah Newman

Spectra Energy executive assistant

Deborah L. (Driscoll) Newman of Winthrop passed away suddenly after a long illness,on May 11. She was 48 years old.

Debbie was a graduate of Winthrop High School-Class of 1989 and a member of the High School Color Guard. She enjoyed traveling with her daughter and was employed as an Executive Assistant for Spectra Energy.

She was the devoted mother of Nicole Newman, dear sister of Sean M. Driscoll and his wife, Cindy, loving aunt of Dylan, Cailyn and Olivia Driscoll and the former wife of Charles J. Newman, all of Winthrop. Born in Boston, she was the daughter of Rita C. (Petruzzelli) Driscoll and the late John F. “Jack” Driscoll of Winthrop.

Visiting hours will be held in the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Wednesday, May 22 from 9 to 11 a.m. A Funeral Mass will follow in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will follow in Winthrop Cemetery, (Belle Isle Section). Donations in her memory can be made to the Dana Farber Cancer Institute P.O. Box 849168, Boston, MA 02284.

Robert Romano

Retired Winthrop School custodian

Robert P. Romano of Winthrop passed away suddenly on May 10. He was 62 years old.

Prior to Robert’s retirement, he was employed by the Town of Winthrop School Dept. as a custodian.

Born in Winthrop, the cherished son of the late Joseph and Maureen (Shea) Romano, he was the dear brother of Daniel J. Romano, MaryFrances E. Romano and Stephen J. Romano, all of Winthrop; dear uncle of Ashley Romano of Boston and Rachael Romano of Winthrop.

His Funeral will be held from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Friday, May 17 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will follow in Winthrop Cemetery (Belle Isle Section). Visiting hours will be in the funeral home today, Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Carmine Acquaviva

Retired plumber

Carmine Acquaviva of Winthrop passed away April 27 at the Don Orione Home in East Boston following a long illness.  He was 86 years old.

A retired plumber, he was the husband of Roma (Ronzio) Acquaviva. He was born in Castellabate Italy and has been a resident of Winthrop for the past 34 years. 

He was the father of Patricia Sullivan and her husband, William R. of East Boston and grandfather of Aviana Sullivan and William C. Sullivan.   A Funeral Mass is being planned. For information, visit: www.andersonbryantfuneralhome.com.
