Those seeking to be local officials in the town of Winthrop were able to start pulling nomination papers for the Nov. 5 election on May 1.
First to the plate was newcomer Stephen Ruggiero for Precinct 6 Councilor. Followed by incumbents Valentino Capobianco and Suzanne Swope for the School Committee. Incumbent Precinct 2 Councilor James Letterie took out nomination papers and incumbent Richard Ferrino also took out nomination papers for the Precinct 1 council seat.
The last day to submit nomination papers to the Town Clerk’s office by Sept. 17.
Seats open for election this year include Precinct 1, 2, 4 and 6 councilors. One at-large councilor seat, council president, library trustee, three seats on the School Committee, two seats on the Housing Authority.
