Message from Bike Winthrop

Dear Editor,

Hello, Friends!

First, thanks to all who came out to enjoy a day of bikes and community (plus hot dogs, ice cream, raffles, gardening, and cotton candy!) at Winthrop Spring Bike Kickoff. By all measures, the event was a success and we couldn’t have done it without our great partners at the Winthrop Police Department and MassBike. But don’t take our word for it! Check out the great photos on our Facebook page and the full page spread in May 2 edition of The Winthrop Sun Transcript (scroll to page 8).

Second, we hope you’ll please take a minute (maybe two) to fill out this short survey on community biking patterns and preferences in Winthrop (and share it with your friends & family!). This survey is being conducted by the Transportation Advisory Committee (TAC) with support from Bike Winthrop and its results (all anonymous) will be used to help develop and present the TAC’s recommendations to the Winthrop Town Council for improvements to bike safety and accommodations around town- this can mean anything from a striped bike lane (where space allows) to a sign saying “Share the Road” or “Bike Friendly Community”. The direct link is www.tinyurl.com/winthropbike and it consists of just five questions.

Your feedback is super important so we hope you’ll take the survey today.

Third, funding to study the expansion of the East Boston Greenway to Winthrop has been approved in the House budget! Thanks to all who wrote emails/made calls. It made a difference. Please thank Rep.Madaro ([email protected]) for making the funding request and Speaker DeLeo ([email protected]) for approving it. On to the Senate!

Thanks, and here’s hoping these continued April showers will lead to amazing May flowers….

Julia, Chris, &

Tiffany, Bike Winthrop
