Ruggiero Announces Campaign for Winthrop Town Council

Stephen Ruggiero has announced he will run for the Precinct 6 seat on the Winthrop Town Council. Stephen was born and raised in this precinct and as a Town Councilor, he hopes to give back to the community that has given him so much.

Stephen is a 2010 graduate of Winthrop High School where he was both the Valedictorian and President of his senior class. He went on to graduate from Tufts University in 2014 with a degree in Economics and received a Master of Business Administration in 2017 from the Isenberg School of Management at UMass Amherst.

Stephen is a lifelong Winthrop resident who has dedicated his career to public service.  As a Winthrop High School student, Stephen interned at the Massachusetts State House for House Speaker Robert A. DeLeo. As a college student, he interned at United States Senate and the Department of Defense at the Pentagon.

Stephen has worked at the Massachusetts Division of Banks where he enforced state and federal laws to ensure the fair and equal treatment of every Massachusetts banking customer. Stephen currently serves as the Assistant Vice President of Compliance at Eastern Bank. “I believe that my background in both the private and public sectors gives me a unique perspective that will best serve the taxpayers of the town of Winthrop,” said Ruggiero.

Stephen has always been an actively engaged member of the Winthrop community. He currently serves on the boards two youth advocacy organizations, Community Action for Safe Alternatives (CASA) and Winthrop Advocacy, Resources, Community (WINARC), where he volunteers his time to help make Winthrop a safer, more accessible, and vibrant community for all.

“I am excited to put my name on the ballot and I am looking forward to having conversations with my neighbors about the community where I was born and raised. I believe that I have the character, vision, and temperament to best serve Precinct 6 and the town of Winthrop,” said Ruggiero.

The Winthrop Municipal Election will be held on Tuesday November 5, 2019.
