James L. Sullivan Jr.

50 Year member of Bricklayers and Masons Union and Life member of Winthrop Elks

James L. Sullivan Jr. of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, passed away peacefully surrounded by family, at Massachusetts General Hospital on Nov. 12. He was 78 years old.

Born in Boston, James was the oldest son of James L. Sullivan and Lillian M. (Rivard) Sullivan and the second oldest of five children: Phyllis DeZenzo and her husband, Nick, Mary Chrisom and her husband, Ed, the late Paul Sullivan and the late Donald Sullivan and his surviving wife, Patricia.

James lived in East Boston for 49 years where he was a member of the Bricklayers and Masons Local 3 for 50 years. He was also a life member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks. James had a love of the ocean and loved being on the water.

He loved the Red Sox, camping, fireworks, playing cards and spending time with family. James loved his family and he will be greatly missed by all.

He is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Sandra (Garland) Sullivan, his children: Carol A. Aceto, James L. Sullivan III and his wife, Jane and Albert F. Sullivan and his wife, Erin; four grandchildren: George Aceto, Ashley Aceto, Morgan Sullivan and MiKenna Sullivan and one great-grandchild, Hunter Aceto as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor James’ life by gathering at the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga Street, East Boston at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Nov. 17, followed by an 11 a.m. prayer service in our serenity chapel. James Hill

He will be missed by all lucky enough to have known him

James E. Hill of Winthrop, formerly of Brookline, passed away on Nov. 10 after a yearlong valiant battle with stage 4 Peritoneal Carcinomatosis. He was 68 years old.

James, known to family and friends as Jim, Jimmy or Soskie, was a graduate of Brookline High School, Class of 1968, and Bucknell University, Class of 1972. Prior to his retirement in 2017, he was the owner of Paris Distributors.

He will be terribly missed by all who were lucky enough to have known him.  He had a wonderfully dry sense of humor, was very easy going and never had a bad word to say about anyone.  There was not a day that went by that he didn’t make Gail laugh.  James loved the ocean and the beach, especially Salisbury Beach, the Red Sox and the many dogs and Pulik who owned him.

He was the beloved husband and best friend of Gail Paris of Winthrop with whom he shared 30 years of marriage, the loving son of Eileen Hill of Newton and the late Martin Hill, dear brother of Jerold Hill and his wife, Patti of Newton, nephew of Myra Freedman of Needham and the late Melvin Freedman and special cousin of Peter Feinberg and his wife, Janet of Natick.  He is also survived by many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins, in-laws and friends. A memorial service and celebration of his life was held at Temple Tifereth Israel, Winthrop on Wednesday.
