John ‘Jack’ Kinlin

Past Exalted Ruler and Honorary Life member of Winthrop Elks

John F. “Jack” Kinlin of Winthrop passed away on Oct. 18. He was 86 years old.

Jack was a U.S. Air Force veteran, serving during the Korean War. He was a “turn of the century” Past Exalted Ruler and Honorary Life Member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078.

Prior to his retirement, Jack worked in law enforcement for the Sheriff’s Dept. in San Diego, Calif., and was also a paramedic in their Search and Rescue Division.

The beloved companion and longtime friend of Jean Wood of Johnstown, Pa., he was born in Dorchester, the son of the late Lester Gionet and Marjorie (Rhynew) Kinlin. He was the father of John, Bob and Kenny Kinlin and Susan Bianci, all of Massachusetts and Rick and Ron Kinlin, both of Washington, stepfather of Bob and Deborah Borowski, Pam Fields and Kim Hurn,, all of California and grandfather of numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was the dear brother of Mary Wood of Winthrop and the late Harold Hart, uncle of Mark Wood of Winthrop and nieces Karin Wilcox of New Hampshire and Marge Dunnell of Florida.

His Funeral will be held from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St, Winthrop, on Friday, Oct. 26, at 9 a.m., followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will follow in Winthrop Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home today, Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m.

Norma Briana

Retired Nahant Public School teacher

Norma M. Briana of Lincoln St., Winthrop passed away at home on Oct. 18. She was 88 years old.

Born in Boston, she was the beloved daughter of the late Josephine (Massaro) and Ralph (DeStefano). A resident of Winthrop since 1951, she was employed as an elementary teacher for the Nahant Public Schools for many years.

She was the devoted wife of Richard W. Briana and the loving mother of Joanne Jackmauh and her husband, Paul of Winthrop, Richard W. Briana, Jr. and his companion, Renee Richards of Revere, Mark Briana and his companion, Wendy of Burlington and the late Stephanie Briana; dear sister of Ralph J. DeStefano of Pennsylvania and the late Peter DeStefano and cherished grandmother of Paul Anthony, Brittany, Rachele, Talya and Richard III. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

The Funeral Mass was conducted from the St. John the Evangelist Church on Wednesday, Oct. 24. Marybeth Spinali

Registered Nurse

Marybeth Spinali passed away at the Eastpointe Nursing Care Center in Chelsea on Oct. 15. She was 67 years old.

Born in Winthrop, the beloved daughter of the late Elizabeth (Lloyd) and Edward Doherty, she was a long time resident of Winthrop and was employed as a registered nurse working in nursing homes in the area.

She was the loving mother of Joy Spinali of Everett and Hashia Wallace of St. John Virgin Islands, the dear sister of Stephen Doherty of Brooklyn, New York, Mark Doherty of Hull and Ann Marie Ciano of Revere and the cherished grandmother of Alexandra, Jaina, Malcolm, Quinn, Ila June and Sahira. Great-grandmother of Naviah. She is also survived by several loving nieces and nephews.

A funeral service was held in the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 18. Rev. Peter Graziano celebrated the service and offered prayers at the interment in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery. To sign the online guestbook go towww.caggianofuneralhome.com.

Vincent ‘Vinny’ Gennaco

Winthrop Electrical Inspector and member of Winthorp Elks and Winthrop Golf Club

Vincent ‘Vinny’ Gennaco of Woodside Ave., passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on Oct. 16. He was 80 years old.

Born in East Boston, the beloved son of the late Pauline (Boncore) and Joseph Gennaco, he was a resident of Winthrop for over 52 years.

He was employed as an electrician for many years before becoming the Electrical Inspector for the Town of Winthrop, a position he held at the time of his passing. He was a former member of the National Guard, a member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks and the Winthrop Golf Club.

He was the devoted husband of Carol M. (Savino) and the loving father of Joseph Gennaco of Topsfield and the late Steven Gennaco. He is also survived by one brother, one sister, four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

John Farren

Winthrop Water Department retiree and member of Winthrop Elks

John M. Farren of Winthrop passed away on Oct. 18. He was 86 years old.

John was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War and a life member of the Winthrop Lodge of Elks #1078. Prior to his retirement, John was an employee for the Town of Winthrop in the Water Dept.

The beloved husband of Doris M. (Beaulieu) Farren, he was born in Woburn, the cherished son of the late James Farren and Gladys (Pitts) Sullivan. He was the devoted father of Michael J. Farren and his companion, Terry Visconti, Linda S. Keller and her husband, Richard, Patrick J. Farren and his wife, Deborah, Sean K. Farren and his companion, Grace Adrole, all of Winthrop and Kerry A. Stetson and her husband, Rokie of Jacksonville, NC; adored grandfather of Steven, John, Jessica and Eric Keller, Marisa Farren, Tyler Farren; Bryan, Erica, Michael, Nicolas and Rokie Stetson, Jr.; dear brother of Gloria Duval of Winthrop and the late Geraldine Farren. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
