Terrence Casey

Avid trumpet player and Chelsea Soldiers Home retiree

Terrence P. Casey of Winthrop passed away on Sept. 22. He was 80 years old.

Terrence was employed at the Chelsea Soldiers Home as a stationary steam engineer.  He was an avid trumpet player and a member of the Dane St. Band out of Beverly and also enjoyed playing at the Harvard Musical Assn. in Boston.

He was the beloved husband of the late Sarah T. (Naughton) Casey. Born in Boston, the cherished son of the late Charles E. and Marie L. (Skehan) Casey, he was the devoted father of Terrence C. Casey of St. Louis, MO, Michael C. Casey and his wife, Brenna of Somerville and Patrick A. Casey and his wife, Lisa of Johnston, RI; adored grandfather of Julianna S. Casey and loving companion and significant other of Diane Fitzgerald of Saugus.

His funeral will be held from the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop on Friday, Sept. 28 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop at 10 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Interment will follow in Winthrop Cemetery. Visiting hours will be held in the funeral home today,  Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in his memory to the Massachusetts General Hospital Development Office/Attn. James Frati

Retired Don Bosco printing instructor, long active in Winthrop religious, civic and youth organizations

James J. Frati of Cottage Park Rd., Winthrop passed away at the Lighthouse Nursing Care Center in Revere on Sept. 24. He was 86 years old.

Born in and a life long resident of Winthrop, he was the beloved son of the late Sylvia (DeGiacomo) and Alexander Frati. He was employed as a printer, teaching at the Don Bosco Technical School in Boston. He was a CCD teacher at St. John the Evangelist Church as well as collector at weekend mass. He was also a member of the Knights of Columbus, former member of the Pleasant Park Yacht Club, former member of Winthrop Lodge of Elks, former Band Parent President at Winthrop High School, a water aerobics instructor at the Lynn YMCA and a former scoutmaster for the Winthrop Boy Scouts Troop 78.

He was the devoted husband of Pauline M. (Lawrence) and the loving father of James Frati and his wife, Kathleen of Maine, Robert Frati and his wife, Sharon of Methuen, Stephen Frati and his wife, Veronica of Alaska and the late Richard Frati; dear brother of the late Mary Frati and cherished grandfather of Richard, Nicole, Caitlin, Shannon, Molly, John, Michael and Sarah. He is also survived by one great grandchild, Jordan.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Sunday, Sept. 30 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Monday, Oct. 1 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10 a.m. Interment to follow the mass will be in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association at www.alz.org. Bernice Woolf

Longtime Mass. Aeronautics Commission employee

Bernice M. Woolf of Undine Ave., Winthrop passed away at the Whidden Hospital in Everett on Sept. 19. She was 97 years old.

Born in Chicago, Illinois, the beloved daughter of the late Ann and John Perkaus, she attended Northwestern University prior to joining the US Navy during World War II.

She met and married David and eventually settled in Winthrop. Bernice worked for the Massachusetts Aeronautics Commission for many years. After retirement, she busied herself volunteering at the Senior Center. She was also a member of the St. John the Evangelist Church Women’s Club.

She was the devoted wife of the late David A. Woolf and the loving mother of Sharon McLaughlin and her husband, John W., Marilyn Lewis and her husband, Dr. Michael, John Woolf and his wife, Patricia, Maryann Eitzer and her husband, Edward and Nancy Hammond and her husband, Mark; cherished grandmother of Lisa, David, Kristin, Kylie, Alexander, Andrew and Steven and is also survived by her great grandchildren, Elizabeth and Fiona, as well as extended family.

The funeral was conducted from the Caggiano-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop on Monday, Sept. 24 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, Winthrop. Rev. Peter Graziano celebrated the mass and offered prayers with military honors in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery.
