Graduate Heads to Clemson

When Cailyn Driscoll toured the Clemson University campus for the first time, she immediately knew that the South Carolina university was a perfect fit for her aspirations. While Driscoll was born and raised in Winthrop and proud of the community she hails from, she is eager to leave her small-town roots and venture off into a new area with new faces.

“I have been waiting to leave Winthrop since freshman year because I love to travel and experience new places, but now that I am finally here it is hard to say goodbye,” said Driscoll, who will be majoring in public relations and minoring in biology at her dream school. “My friends and family have been such a huge part of my life and leaving them will be hard. Winthrop is such a tight-knit community and I will definitely miss seeing familiar faces everywhere I go.”

Driscoll was the treasurer for the class of 2018 and the team captain in cheerleading and basketball her senior year.

“I am thankful for both of these sports because they taught me all about leadership and what it means to be a part of something bigger than yourself,” she said.

As far as her career is concerned, Driscoll hopes to work in the biotech industry, which develops drugs and runs clinical trials to try to solve medical problems for patients with cancer, diabetes or any number of medical conditions. Ultimately, she would like to be the spokesperson for a company in the biotech industry by telling their story and working with investors.

In the fall, Driscoll will be filled with bittersweet emotions as she says goodbye to her mom Cindy, her dad Sean, her sister Olivia, who is a junior at Winthrop High School and her brother Dylan, who attends Plymouth State University.
