Second Grade Teacher Hopes to Impact Students

Taylor Murphy is fairly new to the Winthrop School District, but she has spent a lifetime knowing that she’s wanted to be a teacher. Murphy was born and raised in Peabody and still resides there today. In 2016, after graduating from Keene State College with a degree in elementary education and writing, she landed her first job in education at the Gorman Fort Banks School teaching second grade.

Did you always want to be a teacher?

I have wanted to be a teacher for as long as I can remember, but I also love writing. I hope to one day pursue writing more while teaching.

Is there someone who inspired you to teach?

There are several amazing elementary school teachers that come to mind when I think of whom I was inspired by. I was fortunate enough to have the types of teachers that truly made me love school and learning, and I think of them and their impact when I think of what I hope to leave my students with when they head to third grade. I’m also fortunate enough to work alongside my cousin, Jill Buccini, and she is truly one of the hardest working, most passionate teachers I’ve ever met, so working with her really inspires me to better myself every day as a teacher.

Do your students inspire you?

My students inspire me every day, especially in their creativity and curiosity. I could read endless amounts of my students’ writing; the stories they come up with are amazing.
