Improvements to Come to Roadway

Residents can expect a street project starting at  McGee’s Corner and continuing all the way up Revere Street to Crest Avenue.

The $3-million project will only cost the town taxpayers $325,000 for engineering.

“And the state basically gives us a $3-million project for free,” said Town Council President Ron Vecchia.

Town Manager Terence Delehanty said all the intersections along the way will be upgraded, as well as new signals, new sidewalks, new roadway, handicap ramps and new school crosswalks. He noted that people who want to travel by bicycle will be safer, as well as those who walk.

“Revere Street is busy, extremely busy, perhaps one of the busiest business districts in town,” Delehanty said. “This will help all of our residents with access on foot, bicycle or car.”

Known as the TIPS project (Transportation Incentive Program) it includes traffic engineers working on the project.

Delehanty is expected to ask the Town Council to fund an initial $142,000 to get the project going.

“It’s money well spent. This makes the difference for the residents,” he said.

He also noted that there will be more public discussion of the project and no start date has been set yet.
