Bake Sale

The Winthrop Band program will hold a bake sale in French Square from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. this Saturday, Dec. 2.

 

Breakfast with Santa

Have breakfast with Santa and his elves on Saturday, Dec. 9, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Winthrop High School. There will be music, crafts, face painting and fun! Presented by the Class of 2021.

 

Snowflake Fair

St. John’s Episcopal Church annual Snowflake Fair is Saturday, Dec. 2, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at 222 Bowdoin St.

 

Make an ornament

Glitter ornament making workshop with Susan Gerow on Dec. 9 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at E.B. Newton School, 45 Pauline St.

 

THE 2017 WINTHROP CHRISTMAS ORNAMENT

The Winthrop Improvement and Historical Association (WIHA) is excited to present its third edition of the Winthrop Christmas Ornament. This year the keepsake ornament features Graves Light Station, built in 1905 at the outer limits of Boston Harbor on the rocky ledges known as the Graves. The ledges and station are named for Thomas Graves, vice-admiral of John Winthrop’s fleet, and a prominent early trader in Colonial Massachusetts.

As lighthouses are very popular, this limited edition is expected to sell out quickly. The 3 1/8-inch large glass ball ornaments are individually boxed, making them perfect holiday gifts.

The ornament is now available for sale for $8 at the Winthrop First Federal Credit Union, Shirley Hardware, The Senior Center, Winthrop Book Depot, Browns Pharmacy, Belle Isle Seafood, Swett’s Liquors, The Winthrop Arms, The Meat Market and at upcoming Holiday Fairs around the town. Look for our WIHA tables at Woodside Ace Hardware and The Winthrop Marketplace during choice shopping hours.

Also popular for the holidays is the WIHA gift card program which offers an extensive list of merchants such as Visa Gift Cards, L.L. Bean, and American Girl.  If you plan to give gift cards this holiday season, please consider buying them through WIHA, which benefits from SCRIP, a program available only to approved nonprofit organizations nationwide.

Proceeds go toward the upkeep and maintenance of the 350-year old Deane Winthrop House on Shirley Street.

 

Bye Bye Birdie

The Winthrop Middle School Drama Society presents Bye Bye Birdie Dec. 7 and 8 at 7 p.m. and Dec. 9 at 2 p.m. at the Winthrop Middle School, $8 general admission, $5 for students and seniors.

 

Chanukah Party

Everyone is invited to the annual Chanukah party at Temple Tifereth Israel, 93 Veterans Road, Winthrop on Sunday, Dec. 17 at 11 a.m. Eat, sing, dance, relax and enjoy. Adults $10, children under 10 $5. No charge of those under 5. Reservations required by Dec. 11 call 617-846-1390 to reserve.

The forum will be held Thursday, Dec. 7 at 7 p.m. at Winthrop Senior Center, 35 Harvard Street, Winthrop.
