There is nothing like a day at the beach, especially when its right in your town. Beachgoers will gather at Yirrell Beach on July 15 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. for an old fashioned Family Day at the beach. Family Day at the beach will be filled with friends, family organized by the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce and the Winthrop Market Place.
“This has gone on for 20 or 25 years and it’s been great,†said Marc Wallerace, organizer, from the Winthrop Marketplace. “My staff comes out and this is a great event for the community.â€
Betsy Shane, executive director of the Winthrop Chamber of Commerce, said there will be games and fun for all including frisbee, football and corn hole toss. There will also be two water slide (the most popular event, raffles and food supplied by the Winthrop Marketplace. For Kids Only will also provide some games. There will also be an adult spelling bee.
Get ready for water balloons and the famed slip and slide.
“It’s an old fashioned family beach day,†said Shane. “Pack up the family for the day.â€
Shane proclaims this will be the best year for festivities on the beach.
“It’s always well-attended but this should be the best,†she said. “Bring the suntan lotion and come out to the bed.â€
Winthrop Marketplace, launched the idea of a beach day at least 20 years ago, and will be supplying all the food. Woodside ACE Hardware is supplying the grills.
“Come wear the kids out,†Shane said. “And the best part of it all it the amount of laughter coming from the little kids.â€
“All the money raised goes to the Chamber of Commerce for future events,†Wallerace said.
