Angelo Gagliardi

Retired salesman

Angelo Gagliardi of Main Street, Winthrop passed away at the Leonard Florence Center for Living in Chelsea on July 2. He was 92 years old.

Born in East Boston, the beloved son of the late Rose (Merra) and Sabino Gagliardi, he was an East Boston resident for many years and has resided in Winthrop since 1962.

He enlisted in the US Army Air Force during World War II and served as a Private First Class in Naples, Rome and the Rhineland. After his honorable discharge, he worked as a salesman in the laundry industry for many years.

He was the devoted husband of Mary (Zecchino) and the loving father of Samuel Gagliardi and his late wife, Barbara of Malden and Roseanne Tranfaglia and her husband, John of Winthrop; the dear brother of Sarah Hanlon of Saugus, Patricia Forlizzi of Saugus, Carlo Gagliardi of New Hampshire and the late Anthony, Frank and Albert Gagliardi; cherished grandfather of Kristin, Jodi, Mark and Joseph and great grandfather of Kristina, Thomas, Avalina, John, Giana, Jack, Julia, Matilda and Ahla.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation in the St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop today, Thursday, July 6 from 10:15 to 11:15 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass at 11:30 a.m. Interment to follow the mass will be in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.

Memorial donations may be made to the American Heart Association at www.heart.org.

Arrangements are by the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop.

Mildred Rogers

Winthrop Senior Center member

Mildred R. (Collins) Rogers of Winthrop passed away on June 27. She was 86 years old.

Mildred grew up in Charlestown and was a graduate of the Jeremiah E. Burke High School. Prior to  her retirement, she was employed by the Massachusetts Dept. of Labor where  she worked in administration. Mildred was also a member of the Winthrop Senior Center.

The beloved wife of the late Francis J. Rogers, she was born in Boston, the cherished daughter of the late David C. and Mary V. (Goonan)  Collins; devoted mother of Kathleen Rogers and her husband, Robert Graffam of Wells, ME, Eileen Collins, Francis Rogers and his wife, Donna and Stephen Rogers and his wife, Kim, all of Winthrop. She was the adored grandmother of Erin Collins and  Rebecca, Stephen and Jennifer Rogers; dear sister of Ann Rogers and her husband, Bill of Cotuit, Edward Collins of Melrose and the late Theresa Mahoney and David Collins; sister-in-law of Katherine McCarron of Melrose and the late  Sr. Raynald Rogers-CSJ., Lillian Carroll and Irene Finn. She is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends.

Funeral arrangements were by the Maurice W.  Kirby Funeral Home 210 Winthrop St., Winthrop. A Funeral Mass was celebrated in St. John the Evangelist Church-Winthrop on July 3. Interment was in Winthrop Cemetery. Donations in her memory can be made to Catholic Charities  of Boston, 275 West Broadway, Boston, MA 02127.
