The Winthrop High School Class of 2017 will become the first to graduate from the brand new high school at commencement exercises Friday night inside the school gymnasium.
One-hundred-and-twenty-three seniors will receive their diplomas at the ceremony.
Class Marshal Regina Garufo will begin the program by leading the Pledge of Allegiance. Principal Matt Crombie will introduce the guests in attendance.
Supt. of Winthrop Schools John Macero will deliver his remarks. Macero is leaving the school system to become the superintendent of Stoneham schools.
Haley Holden will deliver the valedictory address. She will be attending the University of Notre Dame. Her twin brother, William Holden, will deliver the salutatory address. He will be attending Boston University.
Haley and William are the children of School Committee member William Holden and Terry Holden.
Mr. Crombie will present sashes to senior class president Madelyn Fainga’s, vice president Hunter Gillis, secretary Meghan Chavis, treasurer Margaret Mahoney, class marshal Regina Garufo, and videographer Gina Chalmers. Fainga’a will present the Class of 2017 gift.
More than $100,000 in scholarships will be presented to graduates, an amount that does not include the Facella Scholarships.
