Public Safety Day April 25
The Winthrop Police Department will hold a public safety day Tuesday, April 25 at the Winthrop Police Station from 4-7 p.m. There will be hamburgers and hot dogs, ice cream, balloon artist, face painting, exhibits and more. The following agencies are attending: Winthrop Police, State Police, Boston Police pipes and drum band, Sherriff’s Department, MBTA police, Winthrop Fire Department, Winthrop Public Works, Environmental Police and Massport Fire.
Library hours expand
The Board of Trustees of the Winthrop Public Library & Museum are pleased to announce that, for your convenience, the library’s hours of operation will be expanded for the months of May and June 2017. The entire library, children’s room included, will be open the following hours beginning Monday, May 1 through Friday, June 30.
Monday  – 10 am – 6 pm
Tuesday  – 11 am – 8 pm
Wednesday  – 10 am – 8 pm
Thursday – 11 am – 8 pm
Friday – 10 am – 5 pm
Saturday – 10 am – 5 pm
Beginning July 1, 2017 the library resumes summer hours that will remain the same as above for Monday – Friday. However, the library will closed on Saturdays until after Labor Day. Regular hours as above will begin on Tuesday, September 5.
Rotary Club Chinese auction
The Rotary Club of Winthrop, Revere and Chelsea will hold a Chinese Auction on April 28 at 6 p.m. at the Salesians, 150 Byron St., East Boston. There will be a Chinese buffet promptly at 6 p.m. followed by the auction.
Middle School Talent Show a Hit
The 13th Annual Winthrop Middle School Talent Show was held on Wednesday, April 12 for the very first time in the beautiful new Neil Shapiro Center for the Performing Arts.
The show was directed by Amy Limina and Steve Viera, and hosted by Miss Bella Guiffre, Miss Emma Soch, and Miss Mariame Barrywright. This years judges included Mr. Chas Kircher, Miss Elizabeth Carsley, and Mr. Nick Raponi. Â The performers delighted the audience with singing, dancing, and playing various instruments.
A big thanks to special guest dancer and alumni Jesse Kalema, as well as the many faculty members of WMS who closed out the show with exciting and memorable performances. Â Thanks also to the WHS Drama Society members who volunteered their time and talent to work behind the scenes, security guards Aiden Hanafin and Bryan Conceicao, assistant Mike Gillis, Amy Gallagher and the Student Council, Mr. Brian Curley, and all the WMS staff and student volunteers who helped make the show a success.
Congratulations to this years winners:  Third place was awarded to Miss Maddie Tolliver who played piano and sang “This Town;† second place was awarded to dancer MJ Naylor; and the first place trophy was awarded to Miss Kaylin Barry, who sang a stirring rendition of “A Million Reasons.†Congratulations also to all of the performers in this year’s show – it was indeed one of the best yet!
