The Superintendent Search is On

By Kate Anslinger

As of the April 7 deadline, there have been two internal applicants for the school superintendent position. On a mission to speed up the process and get qualified candidates, the School Committee has consulted with the MASC (Massachusetts Association of School Committees) and they have posted an interim candidate search that will include both internal and external candidates. The application deadline is May 3.

Executive Director of MASC, Glen Koocher, will be conducting group interviews during the first week of May and the community is encouraged to attend and participate.

Parents, faculty, administrators and community members have a chance to fill out an online survey to share their opinions regarding the search. If interested, please go to: https://www.surveymonkey.com/Winthrop17

At the next School Committee meeting, on April 24,  interviews will be conducted publicly. On May 8,  the School Committee will be reviewing feedback from the community and they will interview candidates at the May 22 meeting.

“We look forward to a decision in a timely manner so the position can be filled by July 1st,” said School Committee Chair Dawn Sullivan. “I think it’s important that we are efficient and we take the community’s input seriously in this very important decision.”

Current Superintendent of Schools John Macero will leave this summer to become the Superintendent of Schools in Stoneham.
