Lawrence ‘Larry’ Sullivan Holmes

Much loved man who wore many hats in the Town of Winthrop

Lawrence “Larry” Sullivan Holmes of Edgehill Road, Winthrop passed away at the VA Hospital in Bedford on April 8 at the age of 71 surrounded by his immediate family and his beloved wife Kathleen “Pingy” (Kelly) with whom he was married 50 years and three months to the day.

Born in Somerville, he was the beloved son of the late Alice (Sullivan) and John K. Holmes, Sr. He enlisted in the United State Marine Corps. reaching the rank of Sergeant and was honorably discharged after serving two years during the Vietnam War.

A longtime resident of Winthrop, he wore many hats, he was the former Veterans Agent for the Town of Winthrop, interim Winthrop Town Manager, interim manager Town of Winthrop DPW and was a member of the Board of Directors for the Winthrop Housing Authority. Larry could see something for what it could be and the courage to make it happen.

Sorrowfully left behind are his beloved daughter Kelly August and his son Jay “Sonny Boy” Holmes and his wife, Jennifer. He was the dear brother of John K. Holmes, Jr. and his wife, Irene of Arlington and Julie Wilson and her husband, Larry of Woburn; brother in law of Peggy and Cliff Gilbert of Winthrop, Eileen and Peter Lombard of Swampscott and Rosemary and Richard Mullane of Arlington; cherished grandfather of Noelle, Alexandra, Olivia, Emma, Julia and Abigail. He is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.

His funeral was conducted from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Wednesday, April 12 followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church. Interment followed the mass in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.

Larry loved people and was much loved by many. With deep sorrow we say goodbye. They broke the mold the day Larry was born.

Paul Femino, Jr.

Sales Executive

Paul A. Femino Jr., a resident of South Florida for over 20 years, died unexpectedly on Thursday, April 6. He was 47 years old.

Paul had a successful career as a sales executive and was a good friend to the many people he met along the way. He will be terribly missed by his family and all of those whose lives he added laughs, love and color to.

He was the beloved son of Paul Sr. and Bernadette Femino of Groveland, formerly of Winthrop, brother of Andrea (Femino) Lockett, brother-in-law of Geoff Lockett of Georgetown and uncle to his niece and nephew, Isabella and Max Lockett. He is also survived by many aunts, uncles and cousins and his family who loves him dearly.

Family and friends are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Monday, April 17 from 4 to 8 p.m. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Tuesday, April 18 at 9 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10 a.m. Interment to follow the mass will be in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery. Lucy Scandone

Of Winthrop

Lucille T. Scandone of Terrace Avenue, Winthrop passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on April 7. She was 92 years old.

Born in Winthrop, she was the beloved daughter of the late Thelma (Anderson) and Lester Fichtner, the devoted wife of the late Alphonse Scandone and the loving mother of Lawrence Scandone and his wife, Maryellen, Robert Scandone, Linda Scandone and John Scandone, all of Winthrop; dear sister of the late Lester Fichtner and his wife, Barbara of Watertown and cherished grandmother of Nicholas and Gina.

A funeral service was held in the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop on Tuesday April 11. Rev. Walter Connelly celebrated the service and offered prayers at the interment in the Cross Street section of Winthrop Cemetery. Stephen ‘Senator’ Kennedy

Longtime employee of the Town of Winthrop

Stephen J. “Senator” Kennedy of Otis Street, Winthrop passed away at the Kaplan Family Hospice in Danvers on April 5 after a brief illness. He was 46 years old.

Born in Winchester, the beloved son of Clare (Kinsella) and Arthur F. Kennedy, Jr., he was a lifelong resident of Winthrop and a 1991 graduate of Winthrop High School. Stephen was a longtime employee of the Town of Winthrop working for the Department of Public Works and the Michael Eruzione Center at the Larsen Rink. He also was a supervisor of concessions for Aramark for over 26 years working at Fenway Park.

He was the dear brother of Maura Souza of Wolfboro, New Hampshire and Sheila Kennedy of Highlands Ranch, Colorado and the cherished uncle of Madeline Souza, Owen Souza and Jameson Hamm.

Funeral arrangements were by the Caggiano-O’Maley-Frazier Funeral Home, Winthrop. Interment was in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.  Memorial donations may be made to the Stephen J.
