Winthrop Middle School student Bobby Hubert has been meeting a lot of important people lately, like Governor Charlie Baker and the Winthrop Town Council.

Selected to be an ambassador in the state-wide Project 351 program, Hubert is embarking on a year of great experiences.

Project 351 comes from the 351 middle schools in the state. An ambassador is an eighth grade student who demonstrates the exemplary ethic of service and the values of kindness, compassion, humility and gratitude. Nominated by his middle school principal, Hubert began his service last Saturday when he met Gov. Charlie Baker in the Great Hall at Faneuil Hall and ended the day with a dinner at the JFK Library.

Hubert was placed on a team named in honor of Thalami Madondo, a champion of children rights and recognized as one of ten by the CNN news agency.

Hubert said in between he worked at the Pine Street Inn. His next project will be at the Cradles to Crayons program.

“I’ll be doing service projects all year long,” said Hubert, surrounded by his family and friends at the Town Council meeting Tuesday night. The council honored him with a citation from the Town.
