Madeline Healey

Nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family

Madeline E. (Morrison) Healey of Winthrop passed away peacefully on Monday, November 28 at the Chelsea Jewish Nursing Home in the company of her family. She was 90 years old.

Born on July 27, 1926 to Harland and Winifred (Highland) Morrison in Woodland (Baileyville) Maine, she moved to East Boston as a child and graduated from East Boston High School. Along with her husband she moved to Winthrop after World War II where she loved raising her family near the ocean.

Over the years, she enthusiastically  held several jobs outside the home, including positions at GE, Jordan Marsh, Boston Music and WMJX. She enjoyed reading, quilting, and walking, though nothing brought her more joy than spending time with her family.

She was the devoted wife of the late Philip J. Healey, loving mother Sharyn M. Pulsifer and her

husband, David of Chatham and Laurie A. Acone of Winthrop; cherished “Nana” of David E. and Jeffrey M. Pulsifer and James M. and Ryan P. Acone, as well as great-grandchildren Colton, Conlin and Kaleb Pulsifer. She was the dear sister of the late Frank  Morrison and Thomas Newhook. She is also survived by many nieces and nephews, she was the  former mother-in-law of the late James Acone Sr.

Visiting hours will be held in the Maurice W. Kirby Funeral Home, 210 Winthrop St.,  Winthrop, on Friday, December 9, from 9 to 11am, followed by a Funeral Mass in St. John  the Evangelist Church-Winthrop at 11:30 a.m. Relatives and friends are invited. Robert Caponigro

Salesman for Bernie & Phyl’s of Saugus

Robert E. Caponigro, a 30 year resident of Revere, formerly of Winthrop, died unexpectedly on Monday evening, November 28 at Boston’s Massachusetts General Hospital. He was 68 years old.

Born in Winthrop, he attended Winthrop Schools and was a 1968 graduate of Winthrop High School. “Bob” spent almost 30 years with “Bernie & Phyl’s Furniture Showcase of Saugus” as a salesman and popular personality.  In the 1970’s, during the Vietnam Era, “Bob” served in the US Army National Guard.

He was the son of the late George and Sabatina “Sally” (Rella) Caponigro; the cherished brother of George Caponigro Jr. and his wife, Julie of Canton, Georgia and the late Richard J. Caponigro; the beloved nephew of Ann M. Gallucci and her late husband, Victor of Derry, NH, Sabino Rella and his wife, Judith of San Diego, California and Louis Rella of Winthrop. He was the devoted uncle to: Ann Marie Tinkham and her husband, Gerald A. of Salisbury, James J. Caponigro of Newburyport, R. Michael Caponigro and his wife, Danielle of Newburyport, Christine Contrell and her husband, Jeff of Canton, Georgia, Sarah Williams of Woodstock, Georgia, Nicholas, Alexander and Gregory Caponigro, all of Amesbury. He is also lovingly survived by his sister in law, Kathleen M. Wise of Salisbury and by many faithful grandnieces and grandnephews.

Family and friends are invited to attend visiting hours on Thursday, December 1 from 4 to 8 p.m. in the Vertuccio & Smith Home for Funerals, 773 Broadway (Route 107) Revere. His funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Friday, December 2 at 10 a.m. followed by a Funeral Mass in St. Anthony of Padua Church, 250 Revere Street, Revere at 11 a.m. Interment will be in the family lot at Winthrop Cemetery, Winthrop (the Old Cemetery.)

Francis Hyland, Jr.

Retired Revere Heath Inspector

Francis W. Hyland, Jr.. a three year resident of Lynn, a former 40-year resident of Revere and a Winthrop native, passed unexpectedly on Monday evening, November 21 at Tufts Medical Center of Boston.

Raised in Winthrop, he attended Winthrop schools and was a 1963 graduate of Winthrop High School. He continued his education at Newbury College where he was awarded an Associate’s Degree in Business Management.

“Franny,” as he was affectionately known, enlisted in the U.S. Navy in September of 1965 and served until August of 1971 as an Electrician’s Mate 1st Class. For over 20 years he had a working career as a Master Electrician with the former “General Ship” in East Boston. He later became involved with Revere City Government and served for over 15 years as a Health Inspector for the City of Revere. After retiring from Revere City Hall, he worked as a dispatcher for Complete Cleaning of Lynn for about five years.

Mr. Hyland lived in Revere for about 42 years before moving to Lynn three years ago. He was a long-time member of St. Anthony of Padua Parish of Revere and a member of St. Anthony’s Holy Name Society.

He was the beloved husband of 44 years of Diane G. (Ysusi) Hyland; the cherished father of Kimberly L. Perry and her husband, Vance Perry of Marblehead and Miss Kelli A. Hyland and her companion, Bill Adams of Lynn; the dear brother of the late Suzanne McCarthy and he is also lovingly survived by his brother-in-law, Ed McCarthy and his family of Billerica.

Edward Costley

US Marine to the end

After a long and courageous battle with Multiple Myeloma, Edward G. Costley passed away peacefully on Thanksgiving Day at 5:37 p.m. in the loving arms of his devoted wife, Tracy Ann (Warwick) Costley at the Kaplan House in Danvers.

Ed was a graduate of Winthrop High School, a proud member of the US Marine Corps and retired member of Local 7 Iron Workers.  He was truly a Marine until the end. Semper Fi.

He is survived by his son, Edward C. “Buddy” Costley of Richmond, VA and his daughter, Patricia A. “Trish” Costley of Middleton, his beloved dog, Daisy and cats, Little Dude and Mabel. He was the son of the late Patricia (Hart) Costley of Winthrop.  He is also survived by his sister, Deborah (Costley) Casavecchia of North Andover and his brother, Eric Costley of Peabody, his uncle, George Hart of Danvers, and several nieces and nephews.
