WINTHROP FERRY ENDS SUNDAY

Sunday October 30 will be the last day of ferry service.

The next Veterans/Families Food Bank will take place Wednesday November 2 at the American Legion (next to Town Hall). Pick-up is from 10:30-12:30. If you are new to our Food Bank, then you must pre-register with Veteran Services. For more information call the Veterans Service office at (617) 846-3065.

PARKS AND RECREATION       FALL EVENTS

Open Gym sponsored by Winthrop Parks and Recreation for Grades 6-9

on Saturday evenings beginning October 29 and running through November 19th. This is at the Pauline Street gymnasium next to the Larsen Rink and will run from 6pm – 10pm. Boys and girls welcome.

PICKLEBALL

Mark your calendar – Wednesday, October 26 and November 2 one of the fastest growing sports in the US has made its way to Winthrop! That’s right. Pickleball! A fun sport (with a funny name) that combines many elements of tennis, badminton and ping-pong using an oversized paddle and perforated plastic ball played both indoors or outdoors on half the size of a tennis court with a slightly modified tennis net.

We invite adults (30+) to a “free” Introductory Open Play Session on Wednesday Oct. 26 and November 2 at the Old Middle School Gym between 7 – 9 p.m. Equipment will be provided so all you need is pair of sneakers, comfortable clothing and enthusiasm to have fun while getting exercise.

Originating in Washington State, the game gradually made its way across the country, following active retirees from their warm climate retreats back to hometowns in colder climates and introducing it to empty nesters. There are over 100 places already in Massachusetts. You will find from casual play to competitive tournaments for all levels across the US and Canada.

Come give it a try. Winthrop Park and Recreation is hoping this will be a great addition to our weekly programs offering something new for the adults in our community.
