The Parks and Recreation Department, led by Director Sean Driscoll, is having a fantastic summer with 215 youths participating in the parks program. Those high numbers — and we bet the percentage of children participating far exceeds other communities — are a tribute to Sean Driscoll and his staff for building a program that is fun and features exciting activities.
As the head football coach and a parent of athletes, Sean understands that there has to be recreational activities that bring out the competitiveness, sportsmanship, and camaraderie of the Winthrop youths, most of whom are also classmates in the town’s schools.
The schedule of activities that Parks and Rec offers is wide and expansive. The field trips are exceptional, as anyone who has been to Canobie Lake Park can attest. The first Parks and Rec Concert and Movie Night is set for tonight (Thursday) at Ingleside Park. The movie, “The Sandlot,†is scheduled to start at 8:30.
As is is the case with so many other coaches and community leaders in the town, Sean is anxiously awaiting the day when the new Miller Field opens and the Parks and Rec. track and field program can make its return.
