By Sue Ellen Woodcock

The town voters have just over a week before they consider a $9.8 million debt-exclusion override vote for Miller Field/Lewis Lake on Tuesday, June 21.

Across the street from the new middle/high school the Miller Field project is meant to be a multi-sport field. It will have a multi-use surface field, with a six-lane track, drainage for the area including Lewis Lake, a score board, press box, fencing, stands, lighting and field maintenance equipment. The field house will b constructed by students at the Northeast Regional Vocational School. It will include restrooms, locker rooms, and a snack bar.

There will be an informational night about the project on Monday, June 13 at 7 p.m. at the Point Shirley Association Hall, 1032 Shirley St. The latest designs and details about the new athletic complex will be shown. There will be a question and answer session.

Former Town Council President Peter Gill reminded everyone at Tuesday night’s council meeting that there is information on the Facebook page “Winthrop’s Worth It” and on WCAT with Ron Vecchia’s talking about the project on his cable television show.

“We have an opportunity to make an investment in a facility for all the community for all seasons,” Gill said.

A Go Fund Me account has also been set up for Miller Field. The goal is $5,000 and so far $600 has been raised by 14 people in 21 days.
