Gov Baker’s ‘Time’ in Winthrop

The event held for Governor Charlie Baker and Lt. Gov. Karyn Polito last Thursday at the Cash family compound on Point Shirley overlooking the harbor was certainly an enjoyable gathering for the many Winthrop residents and supporters who were in attendance. From the perfect spring day to the great food served by the Go Go Gnocchi Catering and Roseann Jaworski, it was a wonderful occasion for the Governor and Lt. Governor to speak with their constituents and socialize in a superb setting. Edward Cash also invited the former Boston Police Commissioner, Edward Davis, and he was so cordial and nice to those who greeted him at the event.

It was clear how much the Governor felt right at home in Winthrop in the presence of Edward Cash, a well-known Republican leader who is an executive in a homeland security consulting firm in Washington, D.C. Cash delighted the large crowd with his personal introductions of Lt. Governor Polito and Gov. Baker.

Prior to addressing the crowd, Baker had personally called Sen.-Elect Joseph Boncore, who is a friend of Cash’s, to congratulate him on his victory and to welcome him to state government. Baker also had high praise for Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo and said how productive their collaboration has been in addressing the important issues that are facing our state. Town Councillor-at-Large Rick Boyajian was among the guests at the event.

The fact is that Gov. Baker and Lt. Gov. Polito have been a tremendous leadership team and when you add in the cooperation and assistance they have received from Speaker DeLeo and Senate President Stan Rosenberg, the Governor’s amazing approval rating — the highest of any of the 50 sitting governors in the United States — is well-deserved and bodes well for the future of this Commonwealth. The Governor also praised the town of Winthrop itself and the many positive happenings in the town under the guidance of Town Manager James McKenna.

Finally, the Winthrop Police Department, in coordination with the Winthrop Harbormaster, did a superb job providing security for the Governor, along with the Governor’s security personnel. The Winthrop police officers were very helpful to those who made their way down to the waterfront property and with their assistance to guests who were looking to park their vehicle in legal spots. The Governor thanked Winthrop’s finest and the Harbormaster contingent for their fine work.

All in all, it was a great day for the Governor and the Lt. Governor, and organizer Edward Cash, and all those who came to support our state’s top two officials.
