Anthony Ancillo, Sr.

Winthrop Highway Department retiree

Anthony J. Ancillo, Sr. of Fenno Street, Revere, formerly of Winthrop, passed away at the McLean Hospital in Belmont on April 30. He was 78 years old.

Born in Revere, the beloved son of the late Mildred (Ianuzzi) and Amelio Ancillo, he was a resident of Winthrop for many years and worked for the Winthrop Highway Department prior to his retirement.

He was the devoted husband of the late Frances (Magee) and the loving father of Anthony J. Ancillo, Jr. and his wife, Stacey of Lincoln, Danielle Ancillo of Revere, Paul Ancillo of Winthrop and William P. Ancillo and his wife, Lucia of Winthrop; the dear brother of June Fiore of Lynn and the late John A. Ancillo, Sr. and Thomas J. Ancillo and the cherished grandfather of Adrianna, Olivia, Matthew, Robert, Biancca, Emily, Braylen, Nico and Roman.

Funeral arrangements were by the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop. Interment was in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.

Warren Garrison

Of Florida, formerly of Winthrop & Maine

Warren E Garrison of The Villages, Florida, formerly of Winthrop and Sebago, ME, passed away peacefully at home on May 3. He was 86 years old.

Warren was the loving husband of Gretchen A. Garrison, father of Janice Robblee and Heather, grandfather of Erin Flaherty, Eugene Flaherty III, Charlie Long and Christina Long.

Anders Lars Nilsson

Enjoyed life to the fullest

Anders Lars Nilsson of Winthrop passed away unexpectedly on May 2. He was 56 years old.

Born in Guthenburg, Sweden to Ake and Berit Nilsson, he is survived by his wife, Jorun and his brother, Bunnar and his family.

Anders graduated from Gothenburg School of Business and continued his education finishing second in his class at NYU Stern for his MBA in Finance, class of 1985. He was employed by Mortgage Master.

Anders enjoyed life to the fullest. He was very passionate about the culinary arts. One of the highlights in his life was taking a cooking class with Jacues Pepin. He loved his dogs and enjoyed bird hunting throughout New England and his October road trips out to the Midwest. He was an avid sailor and had his private pilot license.

Family and friends are invited to attend the visitation from 10 to 11 a.m. May 17 followed by a funeral service at 11 a.m. at St. John’s Episcopal Church in Winthrop (corner of Boudin and Buchanan.) Daniel Johnson, Sr.

Retired Boston Police Officer

Daniel J. Johnson Sr. of Revere Beach, formerly of Winthrop, passed away at Massachusetts General Hospital on May 4. He was 93 years old.

Born in Boston, the beloved son of the late Margaret (Moss) and James Johnson, he was a resident o Winthrop and Revere for many years and he was a Retired Boston Police Officer.

He was the loving husband of Isabelle A. (LaRaia); devoted father of Daniel Johnson and his wife, Monica (DiGenio) of Melrose, Robert Johnson and his wife, Louise (Nattaliano) of Boxboro and the late James Johnson; the dear brother of Barbara Walsh of Milton, Alice Crasco of Fredericksburg, VA, James Johnson of Florida, Virginia Aliberti of Winthrop and the late Mildred Brown, Gertrude Conlin, Marguerite Burke and Mary Theresa Wright. He was also the loving grandfather of Adrienne, David, and Justine.

Funeral arrangements were entrusted to the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop. Interment was in the Winthrop Cemetery.

Thomas Pearce

Retired travel agent

Thomas L. Pearce of Winthrop passed away on May 3.

He was 82 years old.

Thomas was a U.S. Army Veteran serving during the Korean War. Prior to his retirement he worked as a travel agent.

He was the loving companion of Barbara Butters of Winthrop and the beloved husband of the late Patricia A. (Martin) Pearce. He was born in Lynn, the son of the late Thomas L. and Marietta (Haney) Pearce; dear brother of the late Ruby J. Russo and Wilson Pearce; adored uncle to Patricia Messina of Revere, Debra Eagles of Billerica, Velma Morrell and Robert Shuflat, both of Florida, Thomas Morgan of South Carolina, Richard Mosher Jr. of Winthrop, Mary Pierzchala of Peabody, the late William Mosher and several other nieces, nephews, grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.

Helen Murphy

Family was first in her life

Helen M. (McRae) Murphy of Wakefield for 16 years, formerly a 62 year resident of Winthrop, died at her home on May 8. She was 87 years old.

Helen was born in Boston on April 30, 1929, the daughter of the late George W. and Margaret (Brennan) McRae. She grew up in East Boston and was a graduate of East Boston High School. A longtime member of St. John the Evangelist Church in Winthrop,, she volunteered for many years for the Red Cross Blood drives. She was an avid gardener and enjoyed helping her daughter, Patricia, work in her flower shop. Her family was first and foremost in her life.
She was the beloved wife of the late James A. Murphy; devoted mother of Kathleen M. Herzig and her husband, A. Thomas of Ireland, Maggie Murphy of Murphys, CA, Patricia Ann Murphy and her husband Wes Beckett of Wakefield, James A. Murphy, Jr. of San Jose, CA, and George B. Murphy of Stoneham; cherished sister of Margaret Pridemore and her late husband, Albert of Springfield, MO, Maureen Demers and her husband, Joseph of Revere and the late George W. McRae, Jr.; loving grandmother of Craig, Jillian, Curtis, Shaunna, Maura and Katie Murphy and loving great grandmother of Charlie Max. She also leaves her childhood and best friend Elizabeth Kenney of W. Roxbury.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, May 13 at 10 a.m. at St. John the Evangelist Church, 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop. Burial will follow in Winthrop Cemetery, Winthrop. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. Visiting hours will be held today, Thursday, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Douglass, Edgerley and Bessom Funeral Home 25 Sanborn St. (Corner of Woburn St.) Reading.
