On Tuesday evening, School Supt. John Macero received the news that he will not be appointed as the Superintendent of the Saugus school district, and he is very happy with the outcome.
“I learned a lot during this exploration and realized how happy I am in Winthrop,†said Macero. “I wish Saugus the best of luck moving forward and I congratulate my friend and colleague Dave DeRuosi for being appointed as the new Superintendent of the Saugus School District.â€
Macero was one of four finalists who made it to the final round of interviews. DeRuosi is currently the superintendent of Malden Public Schools. Both he and Macero have roots in the Revere Public Schools, where they were principals in those districts.
After several weeks of deliberation, the Saugus School Committee decided on another candidate besides Macero to fill the role.
Macero, who has put in countless hours working with Winthrop School Committee members to design and build the new high school/middle school, looks forward to being a part of the school’s grand opening later this summer.
He will gladly continue on his path to making Winthrop a great district, he said.
