STREET SWEEPING RESUMES

The Town of Winthrop conducts Street Sweeping operations on the last full week of the month (last week with a Friday) from April through October on the day of a street’s trash collection. If there is a holiday on the week sweeping would normally occur, sweeping is done a week early. Town ordinance prohibits parking on sweeping day from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. regardless of what time the sweeper arrives on a particular street. Violation of the street sweeping ordinance carries a $40 fine, and your vehicle can be towed. The 2016 street sweeping dates are: April 25-29, May 23-27, June 20-24, July 25-29, August 22-26, September 26-30.

CAPIC Head Start is now accepting applications for children ages 3-5. Half-day 8:15 a.m.–12:15 p.m. no cost Full day 7:30 a.m.–5:30 p.m. vouchers accepted. Limited transportation (EEC Contracts only) Components: education, health, family engagement, special needs. Magic show for the whole family

Family Fun Magic Show with Tommy James. Tommy promises to amaze and amuse you! Show begins at 2 p.m. At the Senior Center on Harvard Street. The show is free and sponsored by the Friends of the Winthrop Public Library and the Friends of the Winthrop Council on Aging & the Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center.

PHOTO EXHIBIT PLANNED

The organizers of the East Boston Museum & Historical Society will host a photo exhibit from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday, April 28, at the Atlantic Works Gallery, 80 Border St., East Boston.

The photos are from the collection of the late Paul Paulson and take the viewer on a journey back in time to the people and sights of East Boston during the 1940s and ’50s. The collection includes photos of the old East Boston airport when it was a military base, the Seville and Gem theatres, historical locations and community activity.  Each photo includes Paulson’s personal commentary.

The event is free and is open to the public.
