Karen White-Bennett

of Winthrop

Karen A. White-Bennett of Winthrop passed away peacefully on March 20.

The loving daughter of the late George and Marion (Burns) White, she was the devoted mother of Jonathan M. White and his wife, Julie and Michael and Joseph Bennett; dear sister of Georgeann McGeorge and her husband, Robert, George A. White and his wife, Betty and the  cherished grandmother of Gianna, Madeline, Michael Jr. and Noah. She is also survived by many fond nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will honor Karen’s life by gathering on Monday, March 28 in the Ruggiero Family Memorial Home, 971 Saratoga St. (Orient Heights) East Boston from 10 a.m. to 12 noon for a period of memorial visiting followed by a memorial service at noon in our serenity chapel and concluding with internment of ashes in Winthrop Cemetery.  In honoring Karen’s life and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Citizens United for Research in Epilepsy http://www.cureepilepsy.org/research. Richard Dalton, Sr.

Retired Massport Deputy Director at Logan Airport

Richard J. Dalton, Sr. of Winthrop, passed away on March 15. He was 76 years old.

Richard was a member of the Knights of Columbus-Winthrop Council #162, the Pleasant Park Yacht Club, and a member of the American Association. of Airport Executives. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Massport as a Deputy Director at Logan Airport.

He was the beloved husband of Joanne (Frizzell) Dalton. Born in Boston,  the son of the late Walter and Margaret (Reidy) Dalton, he was the devoted father of Richard J. Dalton Jr. and his wife, Laurie of Saugus and Robert J. Dalton and his wife, Bettie of Winthrop; adored grandfather of R.J. Dalton, Kirby and Kyleigh Dalton; dear brother of Kenneth Dalton and Virginia Adreani, both of Winthrop and the late William, Warren, and Edward Dalton and the late Eleanor Silck. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.

Giuditta ‘Judy’ DiBenedetto

of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston

Giuditta “Judy” (Polcari) DiBenedetto of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, passed away on March 19. She was 91 years old.

Judy was a member of The Confraternity of Christian Mothers at Our Lady of Mt. Carmel and former President of Children of Mary.

The cherished daughter of the late Pasquale and Carolina (Polcaro) Polcari, she was the beloved wife of Louis DiBenedetto; loving mother of Louis DiBenedetto and his wife Joyce, Peter DiBenedetto, Tommy DiBenedetto and his wife, Patty, Robert DiBendetto and Maria DiBendetto; adored grandmother of Jared, Christian, Brittany, Mary, Tommy, Elizabeth and Tiana; caring sister of Joseph, Tina, Joanne, Marie and the late Toni and is also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and cousins.

Edna Fairchild

of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston

Edna R. (Silva) Fairchild of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, passed after a long battle with Parkinsons Disease.  She was 97 years old.

Born in Rhode Island, Edna came to live in East Boston with her family when she two years old. She spent 63 years in East Boston and moved to Winthrop 35  years ago. For 21 years she worked as a cashier for the old “First National Stores” chain in the Orient Heights, East Boston store.

Edna was all about family and enjoyed a beautiful closeness with her entire family. Her late husband, Charles N. Fairchild died in January of 1958, leaving her a single mother with three little children to care for. And that she did and did well according to her children, until her dying day.

The cherished mother of Eileen Fairchild-White and her husband, Walter P. of East Boston, Robert W. Fairchild and his wife, Norah Dooley of Brookline and Phyllis C. Fairchild of Winthrop, she was the devoted grandmother o Sira Dooley-Fairchild, Julia Dooley-Fairchild, Ferron Dooley-Fairchild and Rosalie Dooley-Fairchild, all of Brookline and is also lovingly survived by her niece, Patricia A. Thompson and her husband, Richard of East Boston.

Robert Hough

His number one priority was taking care of his family

Robert C. Hough of Winthrop passed away on March 16. He was 67 years old.

Robert was a U.S. Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by ADT Alarm Systems as an alarm installer. He was an avid camper, and enjoyed many camp outings during the summer in Wells, ME. Most importantly though, he was a family man, and taking care of his family was his number one priority.

He was the beloved husband of Linda A. (Bertini) Hough. Born in Boston, he was the son of the late Frederick C. and Katherine F. (Calden) Hough; devoted father of Brian C. Hough and his wife, Ann of Hawaii, Frederick C. Hough and his wife, Leigh of Winthrop and twins Karen M. Mauro and Erica A. Mauro, both of Billerica; adored grandfather of Eric D. Mauro, Amanda A. Hough, Aiden Hough, and Brandon, Kaylee and Ashley Almeida; dear brother of Barbara J. Chicos and her husband, Charles, Tricia M. Dooley and her husband, William and Nancy L. Macomber and her husband, Chris, all of Winthrop. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.

Michael Zona

Ames Envelope retiree

Michael R. Zona of Winthrop, formerly of East Boston, passed away on March 17. He was 66 years old.

Michael was a U.S. Army Veteran, serving during the Vietnam War. Prior to his retirement, he was employed by Ames Envelope in Somerville as a machine mechanic.

He was the beloved husband of Marie A. (Giorgio) Zona; devoted father of Rhonda Areniello and her husband, Tizziano of East Boston, Mario Zona and his wife, Tara of Saugus and Vanessa D’Amelio and her husband, David of East Boston and Eric Leach of East Boston; adored grandfather of Louis, Lia, Tizziano, Savahna, Gia, David, Michael, Mary, Ella and Amelia; dear brother of Edward, Donald, Susie, and Donna and the late Joanne. Born in Boston, he was the cherished son of the late William and Lillian (Robbins) Zona and is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
