DEMOCRATS TO ELECT DELEGATES TO STATE CONVENTION

Democrats in Winthrop will be holding a caucus on February 24th, 6:30pm at the Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center, 35 Harvard Street. The caucus meeting is to elect delegates and alternates to the 2016 Massachusetts Democratic Convention, where Democrats from across the state will gather to meet fellow activists and hear from elected officials. The convention will be held June 3rd at the Tsongas Arena in Lowell.

The caucus is open to all registered Democrats in Winthrop, and the Democratic Committee welcomes participants. Delegates will be divided equally between men and women. Youth, minorities, and people with disabilities who are not elected as delegates or alternates may apply to be “add-on” delegates. The Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center building is handicapped accessible. Details on the rules can be found at www.massdems.org.

For general information on the Convention or the Democratic Party please contact 617-939-0800 or contact@massdems.org.

TOWN LAUNCHES A NEW WEBSITE

The town has updated it’s website, offering an easier to use format and a new look. For the past couple of months Tanji Cifuni, the town’s community development and project manager, and Town Clerk Carla Vitale worked with a company called Virtual Town Hall to build the website.

“It took a little over two months to come up with the look, design and flow of the site,” Cifuni said. “VTH came out to train our staff two weeks ago.”

A soft launch last Wednesday to work out the tweaks, Cifuni said the site will be a constant work in progress to make sure everything stays up-to-date.

“The new look and feel of the site is refreshing. It is very easy for the user to navigate through the site and it is very easy for the administrators to update information remotely on the site,” Cifuni said.

The site includes the municipal calendar, the ability to pay bills electronically, a Discover Winthrop section with links to the Chamber of Commerce and the future ferry service.
