David W. Higginbotham
Retired fire chief, of Winthrop
David W. Higginbotham of Adams St., Winthrop passed away at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston on November 28, 2015. He was 78 years old. Born in Chelsea, he was the beloved son of the late Helen (Hock) and Joseph P. Higginbotham. A life long resident of Winthrop, he was a graduate of Cathedral High School. After his graduation he served in the United States Marine Corps. from 1956 until 1958. After his honorable discharge he went on to work for the Winthrop Fire Department working his way up to chief of the department. He was a member of the Fire Chief’s Association, the Winthrop Lodge of Elks, the American Legion and the Winthrop Rotary.
He was the devoted husband of Josephine R. (Goodson) and the loving father of David Higginbotham and his wife Jaime of Jacksonville, NC, Kathleen Boudreau of Winthrop, Kevin Higginbotham and his wife Karen of Nottingham, NH and Karen MacDonald and her husband David of Winthrop. Dear brother of Joseph Higginbotham of Centerville, Ruth Loughran of Dedham, Robert Higginbotham of Peabody and the late Joan, John and Paul. Cherished grandfather of Catherine, Kellie, David III, Jonathan, James, Erica, Alana and Kayla. Great grandfather of Lucas.
Family and freinds are cordially invited to attend the visitation from the funeral home on Tuesday, December 1, 2015 from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. The funeral will be conducted from the funeral home on Wednesday, December 2, 2015 at 9:00 AM followed by a funeral mass in St. John the Evangelist Church 320 Winthrop St., Winthrop at 10:00 AM. Interment to follow the mass in the Belle Isle section of Winthrop Cemetery.
