Clark in Winthrop

Congresswoman Katherine Clark visited Winthrop last Saturday for the Senior Resource Fair at the Robert A. DeLeo Senior Center. Clark was warmly received at the event and was welcomed to the town by Speaker Robert A. DeLeo, Council President Peter Gill, and Senior Center Executive Director Nancy Williams, among other local officials. Clark has been an impressive legislator and she was the subject of a feature story in the Boston Globe about how her clout is increasing in Washington and one of her top priorities is fighting cyberabuse.

Clark succeeded our longtime congressman and now U.S. Senator Edward J. Markey, who served our town so well in the House of Representatives. Community leader Donna Segreti Reilly was one of Clark’s earliest and most active supporters. Donna clearly saw the potential of the 52-year Clark, an attorney who had served previously as a Melrose School Committeewoman, state representative, and state senator.

Clark is a rising political star in Massachusetts and the Globe inferred that she could be considering a run for governor in 2018, although Governor Charles Baker has certainly excelled in his first year in office. We’re fortunate to have Katherine Clark representing Winthrop in Congress and we know our fellow residents will be watching as her stature rises locally and nationally.
