Remembering Charles “Bud” Dasey

The Winthrop community is mourning the loss of Charles “Bud” Dasey, a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a resident of Winthrop for 90 years.

Virtually everyone in town knew “Bud,” who was a regular at town events and at Winthrop High School athletic games. One of his favorite hobbies was the game of golf and he was a popular member of the Winthrop Golf Club where he was a club champion. Bud enjoyed discussions about golf and had the opportunity to pass on his extensive knowledge of the game to younger members of our community when he became the Winthrop High School golf coach. Bud was also an excellent skier and stayed active on the ski slopes well into his senior years.

His service in the U.S. Navy during World War was commendable and noteworthy. He participated in the three amphibious invasions of Sicily, Italy, and Omaha Beach at Normandy on D-Day, June 6, 1944.

We were all touched by the kindness and warm personality of Bud Dasey. Our community was blessed that this unassuming and generous man lived such a long, productive, and great life in Winthrop. He will be missed.

We know we join with all of our fellow citizens in extending our condolences to the Dasey family
