Women’s Health Forum Oct. 8

Mark your calendar for Speaker of the House Robert DeLeo’s Women’s Health Forum on Thursday, Oct. 8 at the Cummings Schools from 6 – 8 pm. Get your free flu shot compliments of the East Boston Neighborhood Health Center. Free blood pressure screenings by Commonwealth Clinical Services, and much more. Meet and greet many local health and wellness providers. The keynote speaker will be Cheryl Fiandaca, Channel 7 News reporter. Free and open to the public.

Paint Night Fundraiser for Breast Cancer Awareness

Join us Oct. 15 for some fun and a great cause. October is breast cancer awareness month, and in an effort to raise awareness, The Winthrop Elks is having a paint night for their Annual “Breast Cancer Awareness” fundraiser.
Come paint the moon over Boston!!
Tickets are $45 and $15 of each ticket will be donated to the American Cancer Society “Relay for Life” and aid in our continuing effort to find a cure.
Through generous donations, there will be food available. Cash bar.

Mystery Fans Invited

Come by Wednesday, Oct. 7, to the Winthrop Public Library for the Mystery Book Club 10:30 a.m. to discuss “Defending Jacob” by Massachusetts author William Landay. Copies of the book are available at the Adult Circulation Desk. The Club, now in its 15th season, meets on the first Wednesday of each month from October to June and the theme for this year’s series is legal thrillers. All are welcome. A light breakfast is served.

How to pay for education
A free College Funding Workshop will be held at the Winthrop Public Library Hazlett Room sponsored by Scott Maibor, Principal of Voluntary Benefits of NE.
The speaker will be Richard Joseph, founder of MVP College Funding in North Andover with over 20 years experience helping families pay for school.
Topics will include: FAFSA, Profile, SAR, Pell Grants, Stafford Loans, Perkins Loans and how families can legally lower their EFC.
To accommodate everyone’s schedule the same workshop will be run on 2 consecutive nights October 21st or October 22nd at 6:30 pm.

Temple Tifereth Israel Showing Movie “Kazablan”

Temple Tifereth Israel of Winthrop will be showing the Israeli-made movie, “Kazablan” (in Hebrew with English subtitles) on Saturday, October 10th at 7:00 pm. All are invited to come and enjoy this film which has been called the best Israeli musical.  It’s been termed an Israeli version of “Romeo and Juliet” and “West Side Story”. The film earned two 1974 Golden Globe nominations, a nomination for Best Foreign Language Film, and another nomination for Best Song. Light refreshments will be served during a brief intermission and admission is free. Temple Tifereth Israel is located at 93 Veterans Road.
