Thank you Coach Rachel Mustone and Coach Stephanie Bono
Dear Editor:
Coaches Rachel Mustone and Stephanie Bono have been a part of the Winthrop cheerleading community since their days as Winthrop Youth Football cheerleaders began approximately 18 years ago. They completed their competitive cheerleading careers for Winthrop as co-captains of the 2007 Winthrop High School football cheerleading team.
After graduation, Coach Mustone continued her commitment to Winthrop cheerleading as a coach for the Winthrop Youth Football cheer program. She became assistant coach for the WHS football cheerleading team in 2010 and was named head cheerleading coach during the Winter 2010 season. Coach Bono was officially appointed assistant football cheerleading coach in 2012.
Since assuming coaching responsibilities, the depth of knowledge, hard work and experience brought by the duo has risen the team to a new competitive level. The list of the accomplishments the team has under this leadership is endless. Highlights include: a NEC Championship, Division 4 Regional Championship, 2 National Championship bids resulting in a 2015 National Championship Title and the establishment of a Junior Varsity team in 2015.
Competitions aside, the positive influence these 2 women have had on the children in their program is their greatest accomplishment.  They taught our children how to become strong both physically and mentally and how to work as a team always supporting one another. By the end of each season, the kids were more of a family than just a team.
With a new chapter beginning, we thought it remiss to not recognize the lasting affect these coaches made on the WHS cheer program. The program would not be where it is today without them.
Thank you Coach Rachel and Coach Steph for your unwavering commitment to the WHS cheer program and most especially to our children. We will miss you and wish you much luck in your futures.
