ANOTHER MOSQUITO TESTS POSITIVE FOR WEST NILE VIRUS

Another mosquito in the Lewis Lake area has tested positive for West Nile Virus. The Northeast Massachusetts Mosquito Control has put out traps around Miller Field, the little league field, and possibly Ingleside. Spraying was done Tuesday night in the Belle Marsh area, Revere Street to Crest Avenue, Veterans Road, Washington Street and Winthrop Street. The first mosquito tested positive for West Nile virus at the beginning of August. Any resident having questions regarding mosquito spraying can contact the Winthrop Health Department at 617-846-1740.

COLORED PENCIL DRAWING WITH GERARD LEARY

Local artist Gerard Leary will conduct colored pencil drawing classes for eight (8) weeks at the library. All drawing abilities are welcome to join. Previous participants have ranged from those with NO experience, to those with prior training. All have enjoyed the class and produced some beautiful pieces. Come for one class, or try them all! Drawing supplies will be provided and have been purchased by the Friends of the Winthrop Public Library. Free program provided by Mr. Leary. No registration required. First class is Saturday, Sept. 19.
Class schedule: Sept 19 & 26, October 3, 10, 17, 24 & 31, & November 7 from 10:30am to Noon.

This project was completed at no cost to the Town of Winthrop. It was federally funded with LSTA funds through the Massachusetts Board of Library Commissioners, and administered by the Boston Public Library.

HEALTHY EATING GROUP TO MEET ON TUESDAY

“The Winthrop Healthy Eating group will meet Tuesday, Sept 8th at the Winthrop Library, 6-7pm. We will view a video called, “The Failure of Modern Medicine” produced by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, We will hear from one of our own Winthrop Residents about his journey from a serious health problem to great health, partly through diet. There will be 2 demonstrations, and open discussion. Please join us.”
