Elks Family Day

The Winthrop Lodge of Elks, under the leadership of Exalted Ruler Daniel Swett — whom we remember so well as a personable, popular, and tall (Dan stands 6’-4”) student at Chelsea High School — rolled out the red carpet for members and their families at the annual Elks Family Day last Saturday. Many parents and their children enjoyed the fun-filled day that featured face-painting, games, a water ride,  and a special appearance by the Winthrop Fire Department’s brand new engine. Fire Capt. Richard Swartz and firefighter (and former Viking quarterback) John Hayes were graciously accommodating to the many children who enjoyed tours of the sparkling, new, state-of-the-art fire truck. What a thrill for the youngsters it was to see the interior of the fire truck and sit behind the steering wheel. It was a great day for the Elks and we congratulate event chairperson Brenda Kowalczuk (who also has Chelsea roots) and her volunteers for this wonderful day of food, fun, and activities.
