Boncore’s Campaign Kickoff

What a tremendous turnout for Attorney Phil Boncore’s campaign kickoff fundraiser at the Winthrop Golf Club. It’s not surprising that so many people from different walks of life and of all age groups came out to support Phil as he made the announcement that he will seeking re-election to his councilor-at-large seat in November. Phil’s son, attorney Joseph Boncore, served as the master of ceremonies for the speaking portion of the event and it’s clear that Joseph has inherited the charisma, eloquence, and warm personality of his father, qualities that will certainly help Joseph if he decides to enter the political arena one day.

Perhaps the best moment of the evening came when Speaker Robert A. DeLeo gave what can also be described a strong endorsement of Phil’s record in office as a councilor-at-large and the important role that Phil had in the restructuring of our town government. The Speaker, who was warmly received by those in attendance, jested about how he received the Little League Man of the Year Award a few years ahead of Phil receiving the same award. One thing became apparent and that was the tremendous respect that the two long-time public officials have for each other and their respective service to this town for decades.

Phil’s family, including his wife, Goldie, his children and grandchildren, turned out in full force to say to the patriarch of this proud Winthrop family: “We love you and we’re with you,” as one of Winthrop’s most well-known residents seeks to continue his legacy of public service.

Sen. Anthony Petruccelli and Suffolk County District Attorney also expressed their support for Phil, as did Council President Peter Gill, other colleagues on the Town Council, and our outstanding town manager, James McKenna.

Phil Boncore’s years of experience in town government, his background as an accomplished attorney, and his superior knowledge of the bylaws and ordinances of this town have made him a significant contributor to the Council and make him a formidable candidate for re-election. Phil is a powerful voice on the Council and judging by the response to his candidacy for re-election, it’s a voice that many want to see continue for years to come at Town Hall.
