Henry ‘Hank’ Woytaszek

Verizon Communications retiree

Henry R. (Hank) Woytaszek passed away on April 3, at the Melrose-Wakefield Hospital due to medical complications. He was born on July 31, 1951 in Winthrop and was the loving husband to Maria Sena-Woytaszek and was the son of Henry and Priscilla Woytaszek. He was raised in Winthrop and graduated from Winthrop High School, Class of 1969. He retired from Verizon Communications. He was an avid golfer and Beatles fan and also enjoyed many trips to Las Vegas at the Riviera Hotel. He was the beloved brother of Estelle Zedalis, Christine Zedalis and Dale Woytaszek and is also survived by nine nieces and nephews and 11 grand nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Funeral arrangements were by the Weir Funeral Home, Malden. Eleftheria Balaouras

Founder and Owner of Winthrop House of Pizza

Eleftheria Balaouras of Wilshire Street, Winthrop, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on April 4. She was 73 years old. Born in Greece, she emigrated to the United States in 1966. She was a hardworking restaurant owner and business woman who spent her free time devoted to family and friends. She and her husband started Winthrop House of Pizza 40 years ago and it remains in the family today. She also owned Liberty Deli on Pearl Street in Boston for 15 years.  She was the devoted wife of George Balaouras and the loving mother of Helen Balaouras of Winthrop, Barbara Balaouras O’Donnell and her husband, James of Winthrop, and Stephanie Balaouras and her wife, Helena Johnson of Reading. She was the cherished grandmother of Mary, Ellie, and Marie.  Her funeral was conducted from the Ernest P. Caggiano and Son-O’Maley Funeral Home, Winthrop on Wednesday followed by a funeral mass in St. George’s Greek Orthodox Church in Lynn. Anthony DiLorenzo

Retired Boston School custodian

Anthony DiLorenzo of East Boston died at home following a long battle with multiple myeloma on March 30. He was 72 years old. Born in Winthrop, he was a life long resident of East Boston and a devotee of Sacred Heart Parish Community of East Boston. He was a graduate of East Boston High School, class of 1961. Anthony worked for the City of Boston as a school department custodian for over 35 years. He was the beloved son of the late Vincent and Rose (DiLorenzo) DiLoreno; the devoted brother of the Rev. Thomas A. DiLorenzo, pastor of Holy Rosary Church of Winthrop; the dear nephew of Mary D’Agostino of East Boston and is also lovingly survived by his cherished cousin and her family, Mary E. Campanella and her husband, Joseph of Everett, their children and grandchildren surrounded Anthony with much love and affection, a gift that provides all seniors with a magical sense of security. Rose Bettano

Of Winthrop

Rose Bettano of Brewster Avenue, Winthrop passed away at the Woodbriar Health Center in Wilmington on April 7. She was 91 years old. Born in Boston, she was the beloved daughter of the late Joseph and Concetta DeMarco. She grew up in the West End of Boston and resided in Burlington and Winthrop over the years. She was the devoted wife of the late Peter S. Bettano and the loving mother of Amelia H. Wright and her husband, Donald of Methuen, Peter Bettano of Winthrop and Carl Bettano and his companion, Lori Brogna of Winthrop. She is also survived by five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Virginia (Frazier) Beveridge of Winthrop passed away January 17, 2015. She was 87 years old. She was the beloved wife of the late James L. Beveridge. Winthrop Public School Teacher’s Assistant

Maureen M. (Hickey) Donovan of Winthrop, formerly of Charlestown, passed away after a long and courageous battle with cancer on April 6 She was 62 years old. Maureen was a Teacher’s Assistant, working in the Winthrop Public Schools System for 14 years. Although she enjoyed her job working with the children, her number one occupation was raising and taking care of her family with her husband, Brian. She was the beloved wife of Brian W. Donovan; devoted mother of Kevin T. Donovan and Matthew W. Donovan, both of Winthrop. Born in Boston, she was the cherished daughter of the late William J. and Catherine V. (McGaffigan) Hickey; dear sister of Kay Fennell and her husband, Richard of Winchester, William Hickey and his wife, Roberta of Revere and the late Anne C. Hickey. She is also survived by several nieces and nephews. Her Funeral will be held from the Maurice W. George Sullivan

Retired US Navy Lieutenant Commander

George J. Sullivan of Winthrop passed away at his home on April 1. He was 81 years old. George enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1951, and was called to active duty in 1953, serving during the Korean War. He chose to stay with the Navy, serving for 30 years and retired in 1983, with the rank of Lieutenant Commander. He was the beloved husband of the late Dianne E. (Wood) Sullivan. Born in Boston, he was the cherished son of the late Ernest A. and Julia (O’Connor) Sullivan; devoted father of Diana Gotham and her husband, Jeffrey of Revere and Col. Andrew Sullivan-U.S. Army and his wife, Michele of Carlisle, PA; adored grandfather of Kyle and Meaghan Gotham and Aiden and Brianna Sullivan; dear brother of Sheila Reyna of Blacksburg, VA, Theresa Max of Naples, FL, Mildred McNulty of New Hampshire, Patricia Sullivan of Florida and the late Arthur and Joseph Sullivan.
