The Winthrop High School Hockey Boosters Club, in conjunction with varsity hockey coach Dale Dunbar, has earmarked Saturday, January 24th to commemorate Winthrop High School Hockey’s 50th anniversary.
The celebration will feature a boys Varsity game at 2pm, an Alumni Legends game at 4pm, and a gala celebration open to the public at 6:30pm at St John’s Church Hall.
Dale Dunbar, WHS Hockey coach and class of 79 alum was glowing about his participation in the event. “One of the great traditions of our town has been the tremendous hockey program that has grown over the years. Being one of the hundreds of young hockey players who have come through this town’s programs, and part of a great fraternity, including our own Olympic hero, Mike Eruzione is something I’ll always cherish. Being able to bring the boosters and former players over the years together for one big day is going to be a fabulous treat for all who involvedâ€.
In addition to the games being played and the event, Varsity Hockey jerseys from past years will be available for a unique fundraising auction, where players and fans can bid on their own High School Varsity jersey.
Tickets for the events are as follows: Anyone wishing to play in the alumni game receives a commemorative game shirt, entry to the game and two tickets to the Gala – price $75. Entrance to the evening event is $15 each and can be purchased at the door. Those players interested in skating should contact the Boosters below quickly as the game rosters are capped at 25 per team. For further information, contact the WHS Boosters at 50yearsofwinthrophockey@gmail.com.
