The Town of Winthrop will hold a ceremony celebrating the revitalization of Coughlin Park on Wednesday, Dec. 3 at 11 a.m. at the new park.
Town Manager James McKenna will serve as the master of ceremonies for the speaking program. Speaker of the House Robert A. DeLeo, State Sen. Anthony Petruccelli, and Town Council President Peter Gill will also address the gathering.
The successful completion of the Coughlin Park renovation project was the result of a town initiative to improve the playgrounds and parks in the town.
“We’ve trying each year to improve one of our public parks,†said McKenna. “We’ve been on a course of scheduling these improvement.â€
Other major improvements have taken place at Daw, Pico, Pond Street, and Crest Avenue parks.
McKenna credited the Parks Committee for having a big role in raising funds and awareness in support of the projects. The Town Council has also been very supportive of the parks improvements.
Speaker DeLeo was instrumental in obtaining a $200,000 state grant for the playgrounds. The renovations at Coughlin Park cost $340,000, according to DPW Director Steve Calla.
